Obituary: Ralph Ray Buelin, 87, of Clemmons passed away on 24, 2014. He was born in Forsyth to Roy Ray and Addie Jane Moore Buelin. Ralph worked at Piedmont Airlines/US Air for 25 years. He was an avid motorcyclist, taking many trips with his wife and friends. He drove Micro Midge race cars where he won many trophies. In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by his wife, Elfleda Shouse Buelin; daughter, Susan Melissa Buelin; and sisters, Jenny Seagraves, Lou Ray Hanks, and Margaret McKenzie. He is survived by his sisters, Anna Mae Boger of Roanoke, VA, and Kaye Buelin of Elkin, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on , 27, 2014, 11:30 am, in the mausoleum chapel at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will visit from 11:00-11:30 am prior to the service. Obituary: Elfleda Shouse Buelin, 84, of Clemmons passed away May 3, 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Nicholson Shouse and Daisy Dean Shouse; and her daughter, Susan Melissa Buelin. Her immediate survivors are her husband of 65 years, Ralph Ray Buelin; sister, Mary Brittain Carter of Lexington; and several nieces and nephews. She enjoyed motorcycles and camping with her husband, and her customers at the beauty shop she operated from her home for 40 years. Obituary: William Buehler, 91, of New Bern, NC, passed away on 9, 2014. He was born in Detroit, Michigan and was the son of Rupert J. and Grace S. Buehler. He is preceded in death by his dearly loved wife and closest lifetime companion of 50 years, Marjorie Bell Buehler; his brother Richard Buehler, and his parents. He is survived by his beloved daughter Jeaninne Billingsley and husband Robert of River Bend; devoted son William J. Buehler, Jr. and his wife Constance of Richmond, VA; granddaughter Jennifer King of Cary, NC; granddaughter Stacey Pinkham and husband Richard of Wilmington, NC; grandson Robert Billingsley, Jr. and wife Kelli of New Bern; grandson Brett Buehler of New York, NY; and granddaughters Kellie and Anna Beth Buehler of Midlothian, VA; five great grandchildren Ella and Carson Billingsley, Alexandra Fletcher, and Lucy and Dixon Pinkham. William received his early education in the Detroit area. For his advanced education he attended Michigan State University majoring in Chemical Engineering. Following graduation he entered the U.S. Navy during World War II. Graduating from Reserve Midshipmens School at Columbia University he was commissioned and assigned duty as a gunnery officer on the light cruiser USS Portsmouth (CL-102). Upon separation from the U.S. Navy, he returned to graduate school at Michigan State University. He obtained a graduate degree in Metallurgy and collaterally obtained a Secondary Teaching Certificate. His primary working career was devoted to two professions: University Teaching and Metallurgical Research. The teaching portion of his professional career constituted the beginning and ending portion of his working life. Initially, he taught Metallurgy in the Mechanical Engineering Department at North Carolina State University until 1951, whereupon he left for the part of his career in metallurgical research. The latter teaching effort, from 1975 to 1979, was at Virginia Polytechnic Institute where his teaching activity earned him University Tenure and three Certificates of Teaching Excellence. Between the periods of university teaching, he was employed from 1951 to 1975 at the U.S. Naval Ordnance Laboratory, White Oak, Maryland. There his activity was directed to research and development of a wide variety of specialty metallic alloy materials. Working under those guidelines, he invented and developed numerous alloy systems. Of the specialty metallic alloys he discovered, the most notable was the alloy system based upon the equiatomic intermetallic compound alloy of Nickel and Titanium with several additional complex property altering atomic metallic additions (1958). These highly unique alloys, under strain and temperature, exhibited large forceful recovery, shape memory and super elasticity. Early on William labeled the alloy system NITINOL, which is widely used, describing these alloys, to this day. These previously unattainable metallic alloy properties, coupled with excellent corrosion resistance, ultimately found widespread international application in such sophisticated implantable medical devises as arterial stents, blood clot filters, etc. Their superelastic property promoted virtually complete universal dental application in orthodontic bridgewires, dental tools, etc. Other example applications occurred in aircraft hydraulic line couplers (Cryofit), flexible eye glasses frames (Flexon), temperature sensors, etc. William, in his retirement years, was greatly pleased with their continued widespread and expanded usage, patent activity and the worldwide production and product marketing. In recognition of his metallic alloy research and invaluable innovative contributions, William received many awards. The most notable being two U.S. Government Meritorious Civilian Service Awards, the American Society for Metals George Kimball Burgess Memorial Award, and the U.S. Wire Associations Nonferrous Metals Award. These were additionally complimented by numerous lesser invention and patent awards, citations, publications, acknowledgements and invited presentations. Following his NITINOL alloy successes, he always tried very hard to be humble in his acceptance of public praise. But on rare occasions he would express his inward satisfaction and gratification that his singular initial research had ultimately spread so widely and helped so many people from the medical and dental standpoints. On the lighter side, his primary avocation throughout his life was golf. He openly admitted that over the 75 years of ample playing he never attained the proficiency he desired. His talent peaked during the undergraduate University years. Playing one year on the Michigan State varsity golf team, he qualified for match play at the national NCAA Tournament at Inverness C.C. in Toledo, Ohio. Obituary: Ethel Patricia De Flavio Buduo, 97, died on 31, 2017, at Transitions Life - Dunlap Hospice in Raleigh, NC, with her family surrounding her. Ethel was born 6, 1919, to Congetta and David DeFlavio in Shrewsbury, MA. Her father named her after the legendary movie star, Ethel Barrymore. She graduated from Commerce High School Worcester, MA in 1939. She was the wife of Maurice Buduo, who predeceased her in 1986. She leaves behind her daughter, Carol Driscoll and husband, Dr. Richard Driscoll of Raleigh, NC; two grandchildren, David Driscoll and his wife, Wendy of Humacao, Puerto Rico, and Leza Driscoll of Raleigh, NC; and 4 great grandchildren, David Hansen her Golden Boy, Caroline Driscoll Hansen her Princess, Alex Driscoll the Handsome One, and Victoria Driscoll the Doll. She was predeceased by her siblings, William, James, and Arthur De Flavio, Helen Dolan, and Dora Migneault. She was a wonderful woman who lived for and loved her family with her entire being. Most of her life was spent in Worcester, MA. She graduated during the Great Depression when work was hard to find. Her first job was with Whitneys, the company that invented the Valentine. Later she worked for 30 years as Head Clerk in the Treasury Department for the City of Worcester in City Hall. Her life was long, but she never lost her mind, sense of humor, or wit. She leaves us all with her many quotable sayings for instance, "Two paradises you cannot have." She was a lady first and foremost who garnered respect and admiration from all that knew her. She was a gentle woman, kind, and generous to all. She lived alone until just a few months ago when her health began to fail. Her cooking skills were legendary among the family and beyond, especially the Almond Puff. A woman for all seasons that set an example for her family to follow, she was indeed someone to follow and to respect. One of the good guys. Her family will cherish her memory, and I know will continue to illicit her advice. She was smart, loving, and had a deeply religious spirit. She will be brought home to Worcester to be buried alongside her husband, mother, and father, at St. John's . A memorial mass will be held in the Chapel at Independence Village of Olde Raleigh at 1:00pm on , 9th. The family would like to thank three special people, Sister Renee, Mary Beck, and Vicki Martin, for their support and kindness.
