Obituary: Merle Bostian, Age 88, passed away peacefully at her home in Woodland Terrace after a brief illness and is now in the loving arms of her savior Jesus Christ. Merle was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend and will be missed. Mrs. Bostian was born in Rutherford , NC to Oliver Spain Butler and Mary Wilkerson Butler. She graduated from Tri High School, Rutherford , NC in 1942. She graduated from Gardner Webb in 1944 and then went to Appalachian State Teachers , graduating in 1946 with BS degrees in Mathematics and Physical Education. She was the first member of her family to ever earn a college degree. college, she taught school in Mooresville, NC and Mt. Holly, NC for 6 years. Merle met the love of her life, George Miller Bostian, on a blind date and they were married within 6 months on 16, 1950. were married for 50 years until the untimely passing of her husband on 17, 2000. Mrs. Bostian had two sons, Steve and Mike, born in 1953 and 1955 respectively, and afterward she decided to become a full time wife, mother, and homemaker. Merle enjoyed being a Mom. She also enjoyed playing golf with her husband, George, assisting with the yard work and working on various arts and crafts including knitting, painting, crocheting, and decoupaging. her husbands retirement as an Electrical Engineer from Duke Power in 1984, they enjoyed a more leisurely lifestyle that including traveling to all 48 continental states in the United States and into most of the provinces of Canada, playing golf three times a week at Cowans Ford Country Club, and reading the latest books. the death of her husband in 2000, Merle moved to Cary to be closer to her sons, daughters-in-laws, and grandchildren. She lived in the Independent Living section of Woodland Terrace for the past 13.5 years. She enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles, participating in exercise classes, playing bingo, reading books, and attending concerts with her new friends at Woodland Terrace. She truly enjoyed her new life at Woodland Terrace. Merle was a big NC State Wolfpack fan since her husband, two sons and three grandchildren all graduated from NC State University. She loved sports, and enjoyed watching any sport that was on television. In her own words, as a child I was expected to do my share of housework with my sisters and brother. I really preferred to be outside playing some kind of ball or climbing trees. Merle is preceded in death by her father Oliver Spain Butler, mother Mary Wilkerson Butler, sister Elizabeth Butler Holcomb, sister Addaleen Butler Street, sister Vivian Butler Hudson, and husband George Miller Bostian. She is survived by her sons, Steve and Mike Bostian of Cary, daughters-in-law Barbara and Patti Bostian, grandchildren Brent, Katy, Kevin and wife Megan, Chris and wife Meg, and Amanda, and great-grandchildren Ayla and Zoe. She is also survived by brother, Charles Butler, sister, Evelyn Shows, and sisters-in-law Betty Julian and Betty Rhodes. A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. , 6, 2014 at Brown-Wynne in Cary. A second visitation will be conducted on 7, 2014 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, 7400 Mount Holly Road, Charlotte, NC followed by a brief service and burial in the church cemetery. Flowers in Merles memory may be sent to the Brown-Wynne , 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Transitions Life (formerly Hospice of Wake ), 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607. |

Obituary: Mr. Dean Albert "Lawson" Bostian Jr. 61 of Kannapolis, passed away on 30, 2015 at his residence. Born on 15, 1953 in Iredell , he was the son of the late Dean Albert Bostian Sr. and Ruth Clodfelter Bostian. Mr. Bostian was a graduate of N.W. Cabarrus High School and a member of Community of Christ Church. Earlier in life, he worked for D.C. Linn Construction and later for R. J. Fisher Construction. In additon to his parents, he was preceded by his sister Tammy Maner in 2012. Those left to cherish his memory is his wife Kathy Pittman Bostian, son Dean Albert "Lawson" Bostian III (Melissa) of Kannapolis, daughter Bostian (William) of Salisbury, brother Myron Edward Bostian (Lineta) of Gold Hill, sisters, Joanne Johnson of China Grove, Sylvia Overcash (Jimmie) of Kannapolis, Alice Talbert (Wayne) of Lawrensville, Va., Laura McHargue of Statesville and Ginger Reese (Danny) of China Grove. Also surviving him are his grandchildren Savannah and Nathan and Alexander Tuite.
