Obituary: Elizabeth Booker, 96, passed away night 9, 2015. She was born 10, 1919 the seventh daughter of Hattie Ann Edward Booker and Forrester Booker II in Mount Airy, NC. She was predeceased by her parents and her 6 sisters and younger brother and their spouses. Additional survivors are a number of nieces and nephews as well as a great grand niece. Aunt Bobbie, as she was known to the family, was a care giver and mentor to them, especially to her great grand niece, Ashley Stout, for whom she was the day care giver from the time she was 3 months old until she started school and then she cared for her after school until she turned 16. A very special bond developed, in addition to those with her other younger relatives, and Aunt Bobbie seemed almost like a second mother to them - and she loved every minute of it. Bobbie graduated from Womens (currently known as UNCG) in 1941 with a B.S. in Secretarial Administration. She worked as Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Academic Advising and retired in 1986 with more than 43 years of service. In 1985 she was awarded the Gladys Strawn Bullard Award for Outstanding Leadership and Service to the University. She was also an Honorary Member of Golden Chain, UNC-Gs student honorary society. During her employment she was instrumental in establishing a campus chapter of Academic and Administrative Staff Associates of which she has served as President. She was an Officer of the UNC-G Association for Women Faculty and Administrative Staff. Bobbie joined the Pilot Club of Greensboro in 1975 and remained an active member her whole life. She served as President three terms, NC District Secretary, and chaired projects for fund raising on the local and state level. She also represented the Greensboro chapter at several International Conventions. Outside interests included catering, wedding planning, sewing wedding gowns, crossword puzzles but only in pen, needlepoint, cooking - especially baking, knitting, golf enthusiast, reading, and participating in a monthly canasta group. She was famous for her strawberry preserves and lemon bars. She participated in numerous volunteer activities with the Pilot Club and while a resident of Pennybyrn at Maryfield. When interviewed by Guilford Woman magazine in 2010 at the age of 91 and asked what advice she would give others, she said always have an upbeat attitude, look at the glass half full, whether its bourbon or water, (she said with a laugh) and look at the bright side of things. I like my smile to reach my eyes and my mouth to always curve up. Instead of a funeral Bobbie opted to have a Celebration of Life party so she could enjoy her family and friends.
