Obituary: Donna Rae Bevelacqua, 72 of Knightdale, NC and formerly of Endicott, NY passed away on , 17, 2016. Donna was born on Nov. 13, 1943 in Endicott, NY to the late Joseph Cacciatore and Rita Cacciatore. She is survived by her husband, Jerome Jerry Bevelacqua; sons: Kevin Bevelacqua (Brenda) of Apex, Keith Bevelacqua (Elizabeth) of Clayton; daughter, Denise Bevelacqua Lutterbie (Craig) of Edgewater, MD; grandchildren: Ethan, Raymond, Claire, Analiese, Cole, Gabriella, Madeline, Luke, Angelina, Chase; brother, Joseph Cacciatore (Elaine) of Richmond, VA. Donna was a Coordinator of Secondary Science and a Biology teacher at Windsor Central High School for over 36 years. Throughout her career she was recognized for her exemplary work and received many awards for her accomplishments. She was awarded the Technology Research Committees Eminent Educator Award. This award recognizes individuals who have implemented exemplary uses of technology in their classrooms, schools or districts. She has participated in the Youth Scholars Program at Alfred University with students from her Biology class; has received a grant from Howard Hughes Foundation in Molecular Biology in 1991 and in 1992; and has introduced the Macintosh computer, printer and modem into the classroom. She was regional co-chairman of the Southeastern District of New York State for Cornell Institute of Biology Teachers. In addition she has received two National Science Foundation Grants, one at Boston University, and the other at Elmira . She was a presenter at the National Science Teachers Conference in Kansas City, Mo., and at the National Association of Biology Teachers Conference in Boston, MA. She spear headed the summer Marine Biology Program in Montauk, NY that she loved taking her students to. To list all of her achievements over the years is a very big tasking that cannot be done in just a few paragraphs but the aforementioned accomplishments shows just how intelligent, valued and driven Donna was in her professional career. Although her career was very important to her nothing was more important to her than her family and friends. Her greatest joy was to spend time with her family and to follow the interest of her children and ten grandchildren whether on the sidelines of the various sport activities to tutoring one of them with a challenging subject. She always put the needs of her family and friends before her own. She was very social and involved in Newcomers Club, Book Club, Bridge Club and Gourmet Club. She was an avid traveler, who loved to travel and visited numerous foreign countries. She loved to entertain and host parties. She was a fabulous cook and always made sure her family and friends were well fed with one of her amazing creations. She was and always will be our guiding light and back bone of our family. A Mass will be held at 10:00am , 22, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2817 Poole Road, Raleigh, 27610. The family will receive relatives and friends from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, , 21, 2016 at L. Harold Poole Service, 944 Old Knight Rd., Knightdale, 27545.
