Obituary: Barbara Jean Bennett Devoted Matriarch Barbara Bennett, 76, died 22nd at sunrise in her home surrounded by family, filled to the brim with love. Barbara was born 13th, 1938 in Los Angeles to Eugene and Bernice Ecker, the oldest of five children. She moved to New Bern 34 years ago leaving pieces of her heart in both Hawaii and California. An accomplished artist, world traveler, EEG technician and devoted member of St. Paul Parish, she was active in several community groups including the GOP, Red Hat Society and New Bern Women's Club. A loving mother, above all else, she is survived by her eight adoring children; Steve Garcia, Juli Brand, Leilani Logan,Gina Ray, Lisa Zaytoun, Michael Coulson, James Coulson and Meli Lussier; twenty-three devoted grandchildren, 11(and counting) great grandchildren and countless friends across the globe. will be 25th at 2pm at St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Denis Heams presiding and Father Tom Tulley as celebrant. Obituary: Mrs. Alice Marie “G-ma” Odom Bennett, 81, went to be with the Lord on , 11, 2016 at the Hospice at High Point. A resident of this area all of her life, G-ma was born on 16, 1935 in Guilford to the late John and Una Farrington Odom. She attended Jewel Baptist Church and had worked as a sock boarder for many years. G-ma truly lived life to the fullest and was always doing her best to help others and bring a smile to their face. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and Cherokee to play the slots and bingo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Bennett; son Dickie Nunn and daughter, Toni Landreth; grandson, Christopher Dodson; and brother, Ray Odom. Surviving are her daughters, Joyce Byers of Trinity and Connie Hilliard and her husband Keith of High Point; son, Danny Nunn and his wife Carol of Trinity; son-in-law, Steve Landreth of Greensboro; sister, Faye Travis of Ft. Worth, TX; five grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. Also surviving is her beloved Poodle, Lucy Lou. A celebration of G-ma’s life will be held at 2 pm , 15th in the chapel of Davis , 976 Phillips Avenue, High Point with Rev. James Cain officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park . The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family would like to extend special thanks and love to G-ma’s caregivers, Judith Foster, Liz Ervin, Beth Lawrence, Cindy Moorefield, and Shanna Rivers, for the dedicated love and care shown to G-ma.
