Obituary: Mr. Raymond Carlis Baskin, Jr. of Clemmons entered into the presence of our Lord and Savior on , May 18, 2015 at Clemmons Village. Raymond was born 1, 1924, a son to the late Raymond Baskin, Sr. and Linnie Ann Archer of Covington Tennessee. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Baskin, and a sister, Dorothy Larsen. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Donna Baskin of the home; four children, Jennifer Taylor and husband Tommy of Clemmons, Tim Baskin of Winston-Salem, Tom Baskin and wife Kay of Clemmons, and Jeanine Baskin of Clemmons; one brother, Noble Baskin and wife Johnnie of Tupelo, MS.; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, soon to be six. He was a Lt. Colonel of the US Air Force and during WWII he flew 27 missions over Europe as a navigator on the B-17 bomber Miss Prudy. One particularly memorable mission as lead navigator was to Dresden where he single handedly guided the entire US Eighth Air Force on their flight. two stints of active duty Ray spent many years as a member of the Air National Guard, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Raymond donated memorabilia and historical artifacts from WWII to the Mighty Eighth Air Force Heritage Museum in Savannah, GA. He is featured in several exhibits there as well as a video about the duties of the flight navigator on the B-17. He came to Winston-Salem in 1954 to work for the fledgling Piedmont Airlines. At the airlines he worked in flight operations, retiring in 1982 as Chief Flight Dispatcher. his retirement he ran his own electrical contracting business. In addition, he worked in heating/air conditioning and even home building until he decided to devote his time to his relentless pursuit of the elusive largemouth bass. Raymond was an avid and quite passionate bass fisherman, having once been honored as the oldest man to win a nationally sanctioned bass fishing tournament! This adventurous chapter was complimented by his work as a representative for several fishing product and fishing accessory businesses. He was a member of Yadkin Valley Baptist Church. Previously, he was a member of the Clemmons Moravian Church, on whose behalf he made several mission trips to Central America. There he worked to improve the living conditions for medical missionary personnel in villages such as Ahuas and Puerto Cabezas. Moreover, he never failed to dedicate time to being a loving and devoted husband to his wife Donna and an attentive, exemplary father to his five children. Ray and Donna were blessed to celebrate their 68th wedding anniversary on 23 of this year. A memorial service will be held 3 PM, , May 31st at Clemmons Moravian Church with Pastor Ray Burke officiating. There will be a brief graveside service at approximately 4:30, and the family will receive friends following the service until 7:00 in the fellowship hall.
