Obituary: STATESVILLE- Ruby S. Barnes, 83, departed this life on , May 21, 2016 after a short illness. Born May 1, 1933 in Iredell , she was the daughter to the late John H. and Lucille Garner Stevenson. Ruby graduated from Unity High School then went on to receive her Associates degree from Mitchell Community . She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. Ruby was an avid reader, loved to grill and socialize with her family and friends as well as travel. She was a devoted member of Calvary Presbyterian Church where she was on the trustee board In addition she is preceded in death by a husband, brothers and sisters. Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Lynette (Willie) Stevens-Jones, Julia (Jackson) Farrar, LaGrant (Carolyn) Barnes II and Robert Edward Barnes; grandchildren, Choyia Tonika Stevens, Stephen Jared Farrar, Kiara Jasmine Farrar, LaGrant Barnes III, and Jasmine Nicole Barnes; brother, Robert Edward Stevenson; sister-in-laws, Betty Stevenson and Carrie Stevenson and loving nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on , May 26, 2016 at 1pm at Calvary Presbyterian Church 500 S Green Street, Statesville, with Pastor Timonthy Bates officiating. The family will receive friends after the service. The family would like to thank all the caregivers who helped care for our mother during her illness.
