Obituary: Julian Tucker Baker, Jr., 71, died peacefully at his home in Raleigh, on 16, 2011. Julian was born in Raleigh on 22, 1939, son of the late Julian T. Baker, and Nancy Fish Baker. He attended Episcopal High School, graduating in 1957, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he received his BA in 1961. Julian subsequently served in the United States Navy from 1962-1966, as a Naval Aviation Observer with VQ-2 in Rota, Spain. He then attended the University of Texas School of Law, graduating in 1969. Julian lived a long and contented life; he always was willing to help those in need. He enjoyed his many friends, his frequent travels, his photography collection, and his volunteer work. He is survived by his brother, Benjamin W. Baker, of Raleigh; his sister, Nancy G. Baker, of Richmond, VA; his nephew, Benjamin W. Baker, Jr. and wife, Erin, and their three children, of Raleigh. The family will receive friends evening from 5 -,7 p.m., at Brown-Wynne , 300 Saint Marys St. Raleigh. A memorial service will be held , 23, 2011, at 11 a.m., at Christ Episcopal Church, 120 East Edenton Street. Raleigh. Burial will follow at Historic Oakwood . Obituary: Julia Elizabeth Burgin Baker, age 86, of Old Fort, NC, died , 8, 2015 in her home that her father built, the same home she was born in, raised in, lived in and died in. She was born 3, 1928 to the late James Benjamin Burgin and May Belle Noblett Burgin. Julia was a member of Old Fort United Methodist Church and retired from Baker Grading & Landscaping. She was an avid gardener and she loved flowers. She was a mother figure to many people and was loved by all who knew her. She also enjoyed researching geneology of the Burgin family. In addition to her parents, Julia is also preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Turner Baker, Jr. and her son, James Oral Baker. Surviving Julia are four children, Rev. Tony Baker and wife, Gale of Mint Hill, NC, Gail Fields of Marion, NC, Allan Baker and wife, Sharon of Old Fort, NC and Mark Baker and wife, Denise of Spruce Pine, NC; two nephews, Bill Nichols of Old Fort, NC and Randy Nichols of Boston, Mass.; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A Service will be held at 2:00 PM on , 11, 2015 at Old Fort United Methodist Church with Rev. Tony Baker and Hospice Chaplain Diane Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
