Obituary: Ronald “Ron” Dennis Batte, age 80 of Montevallo went home to be with the Lord on , 4, 2015. Ron was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Montevallo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Laverne Batte. His surviving relatives include a loving wife of 59 years, Mary Louise Batte; daughter, Karen Renee Beane (Ed); sons, Steven H. Batte (Susie) and Edward A. Batte; brother, Kenneth Batte (Carri); five grandchildren, Jennifer L. Blankenship (Luke), Robin M. Massey (Adam), Ashley S. McCoy (Jimmy), Megan E. Cigelske, and Steven Aaron Batte (Megan); seven great-grandchildren, Samantha, Skyler, Sidney, Jordan, Gavin, Brayden, and Jewel. Obituary: Louise Battaglia, 91, of Birmingham, peacefully passed away , 17, 2015 at her home; surrounded by the people (and dog) she loved the most. Minnie Louise Carnaggio, who was not too fond of her first name and probably would have preferred we leave it out, was born 7, 1924 in Cruger, Mississippi and spent her early childhood in Tupelo, Mississippi. At age 14, she moved to Birmingham where she later met the man of her dreams, Paul D. Battaglia, under the clock at Loveman’s. were happily married for 36 years until his death, though she would continue to talk about him daily and tell the story of their engagement to anyone who would listen. For 25 years the two managed and owned Paul’s Park and Eat, a popular restaurant in Bessemer where Louise would make pies, offer dating advice to teenagers, and get in trouble for being too easy on her employees; a leniency she would later use on her grandchildren and any dog that came into her life. In addition to being a devoted mother, wife, and grandmother, Louise was dedicated to her Catholic faith, playing the piano, sewing, knitting and cooking. She loved to crack jokes, and always laughed hysterically when her children and grandchildren would pull pranks on her. Louise had friends too numerous to mention and truly lived a full life and will be remembered by her kind maternal nature, strong moral compass and faith, sassy sense of humor, and uncanny ability to make anything taste good. Louise was not afraid to die, but she was afraid of tornadoes because she survived the Tupelo Tornado of 1936. It was a long standing joke from that day forward that our family and all of Louise’s friends had their own personal meteorologist. She was preceded in death by her parents Vince and Theresa Carnaggio and her only sibling, Frank Carnaggio who passed at the early age of 16 from Muscular Dystrophy. Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Robert (JJ), Marianne Brandon (Glenn) of Birmingham, AL and Ron of Frisco, TX as well as her grandchildren who were the light of her life, Paul Brandon (Leah) of Atlanta, GA and Sumerlin Simpson (Connor) of New York, NY. "Her family wants to profusely thank her devoted caretakers: Laaunda Hicks, Tracye Moore, Alice Burrow and Patsy Hayes." Her life will be celebrated , 20 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 10:30 A.M. with the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 A.M. Burial will follow at Elmwood . Pallbearers will be David Antonio, Paul Brandon, Frank Carnaggio, Jake Guercio, Bobby Lorino and Connor Simpson.
