Obituary: Kathleen S. Bates, 69, of Norwich was taken by her angels on , 11, 2017 at the Chenango Memorial Hospital following a long and heroic battle with cancer which she fought so courageously. Kathleen was born on 12, 1947 in Buffalo, NY the daughter of George and Maida (Sisson) Ross. She moved to Norwich at an early age with her family and was a graduate of the Norwich High School. She was a 35 year employee of the Chenango Memorial Hospital having worked in various departments. A person with a mind of her own, Kathleen was a strong individual who, at times, could be a spitfire. A kid at heart she would still give her family a Christmas list of things she wanted. She enjoyed visiting her friends, cooking and playing bingo. Kathleen is survived by her daughters Karen (Duke) Slater of So. Plymouth, Michelle Coles and Kimberly Buyea both of Norwich, her siblings Georgette Ross, Helen Bush and George (Bonnie) Ross all of Angola, NY. Also surviving are her grandchildren Cory (Anda) Slater, Brian Slater, Christopher (Alicia) Slater, Thomas and Kaitlyn Coles, Tara, Chad and Kershia Buyea along with several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Kathleen was predeceased by her infant son Philip, her great granddaughter Autumn and her sister Dolly Diuro. A funeral service for Kathleen will be held on at 7 pm from the R.J.Fahy . The Rev. Jeremy Stopford will officiate. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy on from 5-7 pm. |

Obituary: James M. Bates, Jr. of West Chenango, 84, passed away on , May 6, 2017. He was predeceased by his wife, Terry Bates; his sisters, Pat Kenyon and Mary Bush; his son, Jimmy Bates; and his daughter, Sue Bates. Jim is survived by his sister, Bev Cunningham of Burnt Hills, NY; his daughters, Wendy Fisk of Ballston Lake, NY, Jamie Young of Phoenix, AZ., and Pam Bates of San Diego, CA.; grandchildren Jim, Bryan, Scott, Jeremy, Tamara, Tessa, Karilyn & Bryana, Stacey & Amanda, Alexandra, Brandon & Shannon, and 27 great grandchildren, as well and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim loved hiking in the mountains of the Adirondacks, boating, and spending time in nature. He spent a great deal of time on the yard and garden at his West Chenango home, coaching and managing softball teams, and supporting young people in sports and other activities. He was a kind and generous man, who loved to make strong connections with people. Jim was a caring and devoted husband and father, and a good friend to many.Jim was trained as a draftsman at General Electric in Schenectady, held a variety of positions over almost 30 years at EH Titchener and , and also worked at US Assemblies in Hallstead, the Broome Landfill, and Jims Formal Wear. A Service will be held on , May 19, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Wm. R. Chase & Son , 737 Chenango St. Port Dickinson, NY 13901. Inurnment will be held in the Glen Castle following the ceremony. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home on from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Obituary: A Memorial service for Glen Earl Bates Jr. will be held on , May 2, 2015 at 11:00AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Big Flats, 95 Main St., Big Flats, NY, 14814. A reception and light luncheon will follow in the church hall. Flowers will be provided by the family. Those wishing to do so may make a memorial donation in Glens name to the First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 454, 95 Main St., Big Flats, NY 14814 or Big Flats Historical Society Museum, PO Box 232, 258 Hibbard Rd., Big Flats, NY 14814. Born 25, 1916 passed away peacefully on 25, 2014 at the age of 98. Glen, a devoted husband and loving father, was born and lived all of his life in the town of Big Flats. graduating from Big Flats Union School in 1935 he attended Clarkson University and Tri-State University graduating with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1938. Glen worked for American LaFrance-Foamite Corp from 1939 till retirement in 1982. During that period, he was project manager on many new fire truck designs including the largest airport crash truck built in the 1970s. He very much loved Big Flats and the surrounding country side where he enjoyed photography, hunting, fishing and canoeing the Chemung River late into his 80s. He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Big Flats where he served as deacon, trustee and elder. He was a charter member of the Big Flats Rotary Club and held many offices over the years and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International award. He believed in a strong involvement in town activities and was a life time member of the fire department, member of the Board of Commissioners, Planning and Zoning Boards, director of the Big Flats Rural Association, Secretary of the Big Flats School Board and was a former Boy Scout Commissioner of Big Flats Troop 42. He was the recipient of the Big Flats Lions Club Man of the Year Award in 1996, as well as the Town of Big Flats Citizen of the Year in 2009. Loving the town and its history, he was instrumental in the promotion of the Big Flats Historical Society Museum and served many years as its curator. Glen now joins his loving wife Jean of 62 years who passed away in 2004. He is survived by daughter Sandra (Richard) Mytych of Penn Yan, NY; son Glen E Bates III (Sharon) of Kennebunk Beach, ME; he left five grandchildren, Peter Mytych of Stittville, NY, Kristin (Eric) Hahn of San Diego, CA , Gregory (Jessica) Mytych of Spencerport, NY, Hilary Bates of Morris Plains, NJ, and Megan Bates of New York City ; as well as nine great-grandchildren, Tyler and Kaitlyn Mytych of Stittville, NY, Austin, Andrew, and Sylvia Jean Hahn of San Diego, CA, and Katherine, Nathan, Anna, and William Mytych of Spencerport,NY.
