Obituary: Elaine Suzanne Boddington, born on Easter Day, 24, 1940 to Hess and Tony Monte in San Jose, CA. Suzanne grew up in Willow Glen neighborhood working after school in her mothers dress shop on Lincoln Ave. Her doting father Tony, a WWII veteran, worked as a school bus driver. Her grandparents, Joe and Emily Monte owned a bakery/creamier in downtown San Jose (which is commemorated with a brick at the San Jose City Walk of Fame) were also an integral part of her young life. Suzanne was a high school beauty queen and graduated from Willow Glen High School in 1957. Suzanne married and had two sons, Joseph Monte and Dino Alan La Russa. Suzanne found herself starting over and opened up her own upscale hair and beauty salon, Sugeo in Campbell. This is where her parents and grandparents influence as successful business owners, hard work and tenacity helped grow her business for the next 25 years. Just for fun, a friend of Suzanne encouraged her to send a photo of herself when The Oprah show was on a nationwide search for the most beautiful women over 50, inspired by Tina Turners world tour. Suzanne, along with 3 other women were guests on Oprah for being the most beautiful women in our country. In spite of being a busy single mother, business owner and entrepreneur, Suzanne continued to grow both professionally and personally. Suzannes love of art, music and travel led her to become a member of the Art Deco Society, in which she travelled to places such as Cuba, appreciating the historical buildings and of course the period fashion. She was also inspired by her many travels to Europe, including visiting her cousins in Belgium, water color painting in Bali and across our country. Suzanne was also a passionate gardener, avid reader, accomplished cook and fashion diva often wearing her signature leopard print. Her beauty, dynamic personality, confidence and fabulous style- an ode to the old Hollywood glam days was always refreshing and head turning. Suzannes homes reflected her Bohemian personality. Once inside her home, you were mesmerized by her intriguing collections, displaying her travels, art, books, music, wonderful scents coming from her kitchen and whenever possible, a roaring fire in the fireplace. Once outside you were amongst her tranquil courtyards and meandering fragrant gardens. One could spend hours being drawn to a faraway place. Suzanne made close, lifelong friends with her coworkers and clients before retiring. Once retired, she moved to Carmel where she attended as many of the art classes she could at MPC. She also made a network of solid friendships in the Carmel area. Suzanne also loved her frequent calls with both her sons- Jay and Dino, walks on the beach and in the hills of Carmel and Big Sur with her first love, her late German Shepherd, Gypsy, and later, her dog Beamer. Suzanne made time for her grandchildren, Bianca and Trevor La Russa. Her influence to her grandchildren was her love of reading, her eclectic style and personality, exploring her beautiful gardens, looking for beach glass at Montessori Beach, teaching them how to watercolor paint, and appreciate the beauty in all things. Suzanne would take Bianca and Trevor to the local bookstore on almost every visit to treat them to a couple of books to start their very own collections. Suzanne had such strong and long lasting friends who appreciated her love of life, vibrancy and Carpe Diem. We are broken hearted that we lost Suzanne to cancer on 3, 2017. Obituary: BERNARD GEORGE BODAR Bernard George Bodar, known as Big Bern was born 1, 1923 in Cleveland Ohio and grew up with his siblings Virginia, Charles, Robert, Denis, and Vonnie. were all raised by a strong single mother Mary Bodar during the great depression. He attended Saint Bonises and West Tech High School where he played football, and dreamt of one day playing for Notre Dame. As soon as he turned 18 he joined the Navy in 1944, he was so eager to serve his country that he tried to join before his 18th birthday, but his mother wouldn go for it. As an active sailor in the United States Navy during World War II, he spent time on both the USS White Plains and on the USS Fanshaw Bay. While serving, a shipmate (Guy Madison) urged Big Bern to get into the movies, but Big Big Bern was convinced he was too shy for that profession. In the late 40s Big Bern met the love of his life Greta Rose Sorenson, known better as our beautiful Honey. were married for over 50 years. When he joined Honeys life, he also entered the life of Charlotte, and played an active role as a father figure. Bernard George Bodar passed away on May 23rd, 2016 and went on to join his loving wife. He is survived by his sister Vonnie, nephews and nieces Bob, Dan, Joyce and their families, grandchildren Tim, Steven (spouse Jean), Bernie, and Linda. Along with 7 great grandchildren, Michelle, Melissa, Jessica, Nikki, Micaela, Stevie Tim, and Angela. And 4 great great grandchildren, Presley, Abigail, Paige, and soon to be born Rockefeller. Big Bern was a hardworking man who lived a full life, and was a man of few words. (His sister Vonnie nick named him Gary Cooper) He was a part of the greatest generation, because of all he endured and all he saw, he went on without a word of complaint.
