Obituary: Russel Sheridan Bitner Jr., was born 14th, 1918 in Scottdale,Pennsylvania. He would have been 99 this coming . His parents were Russel Sheridan Bitner Sr and Blanch Bitner (nee Brooks) Russel Bitner and Ethel Stange were married on 1, 1942 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Connellsville, Pennsylvania. Their home was near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. had five children, Thomas Bitner; James Bitner; Daniel Bitner; George Bitner; Sally OHenley (nee Bitner), nine Grandchildren, twelve Great-Grandchildren and four Great-Great-Grandchildren. just a couple years of marriage, during World War II, Russel served in the US Navy as a Refrigeration Mechanic at Kaneohe Bay Hawaii. discharge, he went to work for Anchor Hocking glass plant where he worked till 1983, achieving the position of Machinist Superintendent. During his working career he also started a couple private enterprises; one was a photography studio, another interesting venture was ownership in several coke ovens, using coal to manufacture coke for the steel industry. The largest of his entrepreneurial ventures was the Bitner Block , where cement blocks and prefabricated concrete stairs were manufactured and delivered. The career with Anchor Hocking also involved moving his family to California in 1963. He lived in Paramount till 2007, when health reasons necessitated a move to an assisted living facility called Park Terrace; this is located in Rancho Santa Margarita. While there, he maintained an active social life, including developing friendships at the local Senior , where he enjoyed dining. He was an active member in Lutheran Churches where they lived, including serving as the Church Treasurer for a number of years. He was active with Gideons International and was a volunteer worker for LA Probation Departments, Protestant Chaplains Office. Dads pastimes included golf, where he would hit the links no matter the weather, or sometimes the light of day. He was a good skier, both on the water and the snow, and the water skiing was closely tied to the cabin he built on the lake in Pennsylvania. There were also the many camping trips he took with family and friends, from church, to Salton Sea, and Glamis in California and Lake Powell in Arizona to name a few. Third generation California, Kenneth is survived by his wife, Nancy Bitner, married 48 years, His sister, Joyce Filkill (Ken was born on her birthday), his 3 children, Steve Bitner and his wife, Kathy of Loomis,Ca, Sharon Marshall and her husband, Wayne of Loomis, and Julie Lopez and her husband, Cesar of Roseville,Ca; His 9 Grandchildren, Justin, Jeremy, and Kendra Marshall, Danielle, Jason, Hunter and Connor Bitner and Skylar and Morgan Beasley (Lopez), His 3 Step-Grandchildren, Justin, Matthew and Jackie, and his step-great granddaughter, Mia Lopez, his long time sister-in-law, Patsy Owen, brothers-in-law, Mike Rabjohn and his wife, Pam and Nick Owen and his wife, Debbie and many loving nieces and nephews as well as his long time childhood friend, Gerald Lind. Ken was a charter member of the Roseville Church of the Nazarene and he, his father and his son, helped build the church building where it stands today on Main Street in Roseville,CA. His Grandmother, Kate Bitner help establish the Church of the Nazarene in Roseville. Ken attended Roseville High School, Sierra and Cal Poly. He served his country proudly during the Korean War . Ken was a building contractor most of his life and he enjoyed building homes with his son and son-in-law. Ken also worked for the State of California and Aerojet. Ken loved the Lord with all his heart: He was a devoted father and Husband who gave unselfishly to those in need. Ken was an active outdoorsman who loved to water and snow ski, Fish, camp and most of all to play golf, all of which he could do while enjoying time with his family and friends whom he dearly loved. In his earlier years, Ken enjoyed racing cars, boats and motorcycles. Memorial services will be held for Ken on 5th 2010 at 4:;00 P.M. at the Roseville First Church of the Nazarene on Main Street in Roseville. Pastor Michael Cornelison will officiate. Following Kens services, family and friends are invited to continue celebrating his life at his daughters home, 224 Nunzia Court in Roseville,CA. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the RFCN Building Fund or the Alzheimers Aid Society of Northern California. |

Obituary: Gordon Leroy Bithell, 79, cherished husband, father, grandfather, friend, passed away on 22, 2015. He was born 31, 1935 in Salt Lake City, UT, the son of Leroy Bithell and Margaret (Harward) Bithell. Gordon married Barbara (McLelland) and moved to California where they raised 3 children. In 1958 he founded his painting contracting business that would become Bithell, Inc., and dedicated himself to being the best businessman and provider he could be. He fulfilled that goal and never waivered from it throughout his life. In 1971 he married Carolyn J. (Buckwell) Christiansen and moved to the home in San Dimas, CA where he resided for the rest of his life. Carol brought with her 4 children, whom he loved and raised as his own. Gordon was proud of the business he built and worked hard to cultivate a reputation of quality, integrity, and reliability. Gordon was an active member of the Painting & Decorating Contractors of America (PDCA) serving as past president of the LA Chapter, Tri- Chapter, vice-president of the Calif. Council, as well as a representative to the National PDCA. Gordon had many interests and hobbies, which he pursued with the same dedication and passion he showed in his business and family life. He loved fishing, golfing, football, poker, & Sudoku. He was also an avid horse racing fan and owned many winning horses in the last decade. In recent years he bred his own race horses and had 3 owner-bred horses at the time of his death. Gordon will be so dearly missed by all his children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. His Legacy will live on in them and his business. Survivors include children: Gwen (Chris) Agler; Jill Campbell; Troy Bithell; step-children: Rick (Shauna) Christiansen; Cheri Christiansen; Ryan (Janalee) Christiansen; grandchildren: Ryan & Brett Agler; Audrey & Hannah Campbell; Chelsey, Courtney, Melanie & Reid Bithell; Steven Christiansen; Lainie Christiansen; Keeley Zukas; and 4 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents, beloved wife Carol, sister Carolee Faber, & stepson Jim Christiansen. services will be held , 2, 2015, 12:00 PM, at Forest Lawn - Covina Hills - Church of our Heritage, 21300 Via Verde Drive, Covina, CA 91724. Private reception for family & close friends to follow. are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Covina, California. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to National Multiple Sclerosis Society or Inland Valley Humane Society, Pomona. |
