Obituary: ROSEMARY (nee Manly) BECK, 91, of Wayne died . Born in , Texas, Rosemary Beck resided in Wayne since 1951. She was a devoted member of the Little Falls United Methodist Church and in her younger years, the Mountainview Womans Club of Wayne. When her children were young, she volunteered as a Cub Scout den mother. She was an avid club tennis and volleyball player in the Wayne Rec. leagues for much of her life playing recreationally and competitively in Wayne and surrounding towns. Rosemary was a very talented artist having completed art school at the Museum of Fine Arts-Houston in the early 40s. She leaves us a legacy of wonderful paintings and sculptures. Rosemary spent her teenage and young adult years in Houston, Texas were she was a tennis champion and stand out athlete and artist. During WWII she met her future husband, an Army Air Corps pilot, at an Officers Club dance in Houston. He was a handsome and friendly flyboy from New Jersey, she was a stunning and engaging young Texan. both left that dance telling friends that they each had met a person they might marry. were right! During WWII, Rosemary served on the front working for the War Production Board by deftly qualifying and placing workers in critical war production jobs in Houston, Texas. As an example, having never welded a thing in her life, she was astute enough to identify and screen out applicants who claimed to be qualified welders but weren . the war and marriage in 1946 she became the loving mother of four devoted sons. She passed on a love for nature, art, athletics, antiques gardening and the outdoors. Rosemary taught her boys to identify animals and plants by sight, even while speeding past fields of cotton, milo, corn, beans, and watermelon at 60 mph on annual road trips back to Texas during the 1950s and 60s. These specific interests and her inquisitiveness, in general, could not help but be absorbed by her sons and have been successfully passed to a third generation. A transplanted Texan, she loved living in New Jersey and showing it off to visiting friends. Throughout her life, but especially in her later years, she relished drives in the North Jersey countryside in any season. Trips to Cape Cod campgrounds and inns were a special treat. She loved her home of 65 years in Wayne which she and her husband literally built with their own hands. In her later years, she enjoyed sitting in the living room by her fireplace in the winter looking out at fresh snow, and sitting in the backyard watching all that nature offers in the Jersey spring, summer, and fall. Feeding a husband and four boys made her into an avid and accomplished cook. She has passed many recipes across several generations. Family picnics always enjoyed her Apple crisp pies and backyard grown Rhubarb pies. Rosemary was also a life-long letter writer having never adopted email. Her letters were legendary with her family and friends. Most involved multiple pages written in fine small script over several days. were like a serialized journal parsed out in weekly chapters providing a great window into her daily life for her far away relatives and friends. Rosemary, as Mom to her kids, Honey to her husband and Rosie and Sis to her siblings, parents, and childhood friends will be deeply missed. She had a great life, but even at 91, was taken from us too soon. We will hold onto her through our memories, learned habits, interests, paintings, letters, and that little bit of her that is in each of us. Rosemary was predeceased by her son, Jeffrey R. Beck, in 2010; by her sister, Ann Gilliland and her brother, Robert Bobby Manly and her parents. Survivors include: her husband of 68 years, Richard J. Beck; her brother Eugene Manly of Houston, TX; her three sons, Scott M. Beck and his wife, Carol, Gary E. Beck and his wife, Dagmar and Richard A. Beck and his wife, Maureen, all of Houston, TX; her daughter in law, Jocelyn Beck of Bethlehem, Pa.; her eight grandchildren (Corey, Travis, Katie, Logan, Derek, Sarah, Alexander, and Rachel) and two great grandchildren (McKenna and Charlotte). A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 am 27th at Little Falls United Methodist Church 139 Main Street in Little Falls, NJ. Visit www.bizub.com for driving directions and online condolences. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Hospice of New Jersey, 224 Hamburg Turnpike, Wayne, NJ 07470. We will be forever thankful for the care and peaceful environment they provided to mom in her final days. |

Obituary: RICHARD J. BECK, 93, of Wayne died , 22. Born in Newark and raised in Lyndhurst, NJ, Richard (Dick) Beck resided in Wayne since 1951. He was a devoted member of the Little Falls United Methodist Church having served as a School teacher and head of the Trustees. When his children were young, he volunteered as a Boy Scout Troop Leader in Wayne. Dad was an avid woodworker, artist, tennis player, private pilot, photographer, golfer, and artist. We are fortunate to have his sketchbook from WWII in Europe, paintings, and sculptures and we are also blessed with numerous examples of his woodworking skills ranging from carved birds, through furniture and refinished and repaired antiques, to the house he built in Wayne and lived in for 64 years. Many members and friends of his church are also fortunate to have samples of his woodworking which he donated to church fairs over many years. Our dad, was a lifelong photographer. Starting in the 1930s through the 2010s. We are fortunate to have negatives, prints, and slides from his childhood to today. encompass, life in NJ, at he Farm in Louisiana, service during WWII in the US and Europe, and a chronicle of his family from 1946 until now. Many of these photos were developed and printed in the basement darkroom he built in our house in Wayne. In his later years, Dad, transferred hundreds of photos and movies to the computer age where they are preserved and shared with family and friends and on Facebook. Dad adopted the computer in the early 80s and just loved it (along with daily breakfast habit of doing the Jumble in the newspaper.) Old and new technology, Dad was comfortable with both. Dad spent his adult life in NJ, having been born in Newark and raised in Lyndhurst where he was class president, and captain of the Lyndhurst H.S. football team and a track and basketball star. Before WWII, dad went to Rutgers on a football scholarship and studied engineering. His education was interrupted by WWII when he volunteered for the Army Air Corps and was commissioned as a Lieutenant. Dad was a flight instructor at various airfields which is how he met our late mom, Rosemary, in Houston, Texas. Dad served in the European Theater as a C-47 transport pilot and a Glider co-Pilot during Operation Varsity on 24, 1945 which is also known as the Rhine Invasion. This was the largest glider operation during WWII. the war and marriage in 1946 he became the loving father of four devoted sons. He passed on a love for doing things with your hands, sports, the outdoors, and respect for all. Dad spent his working career in management with Presto Lock in Garfield. If you ever had a combination lock with the little dials that let you change the combination, his company invented it and made it. With his boys grown, Dad, decided he wanted to pilot again and got certified as a single engine Cessna pilot. He enjoyed flying around north Jersey and taking people on tours over to the Hudson and around the Statue of Liberty. A native Yankee, dad never forgot his family roots, taking us on road trips through the south to the family homestead and farm in Minden, Louisiana where his sons were introduced to the south, cattle, and oil wells. Throughout his life, but especially in his later years, along with Mom, he relished drives in the North Jersey countryside in any season. Trips to Cape Cod campgrounds and inns were a special treat. Dad loved his home of 65 years in Wayne which he and mom literally built with their own hands. He would drive out after work in Garfield and on weekends to build the house in Wayne by hand over the course of a 1950-51. In his later years, he and mom enjoyed sitting in the living room by their fireplace in the winter looking out at fresh snow, and sitting in the backyard watching all that nature offers in the Jersey spring, summer, and fall. Richard, as Dad to his kids, Honey to his wife and Grandpa, Opa, and Dick to his grandkids will be deeply missed. He had a great life, but even at 93, was taken from us too soon. We will hold onto him through our memories, learned habits, interests, mischievousness and that little bit of him that is in each of us. Dad was predeceased by his wife, Rosemary on 3 of this year, son, Jeffrey R. Beck, in 2010; by his father, Elisa Beck, his brother, Raymond, and his mother, Margaret. Survivors include: his three sons, Scott M. Beck and his wife, Carol, Gary E. Beck and his wife, Dagmar and Richard A. Beck and his wife, Maureen, all of Houston, TX; his daughter in law, Jocelyn Beck of Bethlehem, Pa.; his eight grandchildren (Corey, Travis, Katie, Logan, Derek, Sarah, Alexander, and Rachel) and two great grandchildren (McKenna and Charlotte). A joint Memorial Service for Dick and Rosemary will be held 11am 27th at Little Falls United Methodist Church in Little Falls, NJ, with a reception to follow. Further details are available on the funeral home website. Please make a note to visit Bizub-Parker home at www.bizub.com for memorial service details, driving directions and online condolences.
