Obituary: On the evening of 25, 2016, our Grandfather, Calvin Barnes, passed away in his home sur-rounded by family, as a result of Lewy Body Disease. Our Gramps, fondly referred to as Cal, is the greatest man we have ever known. He certainly kept us on our toes with all his Calvinisms." He always made sure his girls were laughing, smil-ing, and well fed. He unfailingly greeted us with that grin and a big hug, sneaking us candy and ice cream when LouLou wasn looking. Always the jokester, Gramps would entertain us for hours with his hilarious stories-we espe-cially loved the ones involving our Grams. Forever a kid at heart, we could always count on Ole Cal to join in the fun. From scavenger hunts to kickball, to playing dress up and starting a band-Gramps truly taught us the significance of lighthearted, family fun. Continuously putting others before himself, he inspired us to be selfless, giving, and kind. He ensured that we understood the importance of hard work, family-first, and being independent. Our Cal was a gift that touched the life of every individual that he encountered, treating everyone better than he wished to be treated. He will always be remembered for his servants heart, generosity, and loving spirit. Thank you for showing us unconditional love. Thank you for teaching us to smile. Thank you for teaching us to laugh. Thank you for showing us how fortunate we are to have each other. Thank you for showing us the beauty of this Earth. Thank you for showing us the importance of a hammer, ruler, and measuring tape. Thank you for leading by example. And lastly, thank you for teaching us to love ourselves. Obituary: John (Jackie) Barnes has gone to be with God. He was 61. services will be held 11:00 a.m. , 19, 2015 at Byrd Chapel officiated by Bob Sanders and Tim Willis. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to service time. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in his name to Westside Terrace or Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Dothan, AL. Jackie was born 29, 1954 in stead, FL and graduated South Dade High School in 1974. He was manager of Ragged Edge Resort in Islamorada, Florida Keys for over 10 years. Prior to that Jackie worked for the family businesses farming, and later with Key Largo Air Service. Jackie loved people. He also loved flying, hunting and fishing and was a great cook. For the past several years he was a resident of Westside Terrace in Dothan. Jackie was preceded in death by his father, Jack Barnes. He leaves behind his mother, Jo Ann Barnes of Dothan, AL; brother, Bob Barnes and sister, Patty Barnes, both of Dothan, AL, brother and sister-in-law, Damon and Julie Barnes of Davenport, FL; nephew, Joshua Cunningham of Kalamazoo, MI; nieces, Stacy Barnes and Brianna Haszonics of Dothan, AL, Rosina and London Barnes of Davenport, FL; aunts and uncles, Margaret and Tom Dolar of Dothan, AL and Cecillia Ann Burrichter of Fayette, AL; numerous cousins in Florida and Alabama. |
