Obituary: Dot was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, but quickly moved to Laurel, Mississippi, where she graduated from high school and went on to graduate from Jones Junior . Dot was reared in a Christian home and was involved in all the activities of the church. When she was 17 years old she began to realized that she needed to take Jesus into her heart where He has been ever since. graduation from college, Dot met and married her husband Hubert. Together they move to Vicksburg where Dot was heavily involved with WMU and school. When they moved to Jackson in 1970, Dot was busy being a homemaker and rearing her two children, Hubert Ashley and Pamela Kay. She enjoyed her three grandchildren. In her spare time, she liked making scrapbooks and doing thread counts and ceramics. joining First Baptist Church in 1970, Dot found many areas that could use help including Nona Reid and the Crier Choir, Mission Friends, and Vacation Bible School. Dot was most visible on morning during worship service sitting with a group of children whose parents were singing with the Sanctuary Choir. Dot says the most rewarding part of her work is watching the little ones grow up and helping to mold their young lives by giving them unconditional love as Jesus did. She loved caring for the children of the children she once cared for. Dot's favorite verse is Philippians 4:13: I can do all thins through Christ who strengthens me. Dot was known as Miss Dot to all the children and families at the church. Meanwhile they joined FBC Jackson where she began working in all phases of preschool for 32 years. She retired in 2005. She taught training union, night activities, and whenever the nursery was open, she kept 3 year olds for 17 years Mother's Day Out program for 20 years, and the Family Life at First Baptist for 15 years. At the time of her illness in 2009, she was a School teacher at Northminster Baptist Church. She had been there several years. She volunteered for Vacation Bible School each year and run for the Son. Mrs. Bass also sold Avon for 27 years. Dot had a "green" thumb with plant and flowers. She loved working with them. Her favorite flowers were her Hawaiian flowers, the plumeria and ginger. Her daughter Pam brought her first plumeria form Hawaii in 1977 and it's still blooming today. She loved feeding her birds and loving her cat, Fritz.
