Obituary: Dorothy Blanche Barc, age 85 of Detroit, died , 18, 2014 at the West Hickory Haven in Milford, Michigan. She was born 13, 1929 in Detroit, daughter of the late George and the late Theresa (nee: Zinchalk) Nowicki. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, there is no question that Dorothys greatest blessings were the precious loved ones that God placed in her life,…especially those treasured cherubs, her grandkids. And as the old adage states that the best way to a persons heart is through their tummy, it is no surprise that she made sure she could cook and bake with the best of them. When it came to her famed pies and cakes, the only thing youd be left asking is,…got milk? Her children stated that cookies weren necessarily her thing, but the pies and cakes were award-worthy treats. And when it came to her pies, there was no greater example of her expertise than what she whipped up for her magnificent Thanksgiving feast. Throughout the year, Dorothy could work some incredible magic in the kitchen,…and her dinner table was always a thing of beauty. But when it came to Thanksgiving, her culinary skills made every other meal pale in comparison. She pulled out all the stops, as well as all the pots & pans, to create a feast fit for royalty. There wasn a vegetable unrepresented amidst the menu, and dessert was rife with just about every kind of pie you could imagine. But thats just how Dorothy rolled when it came to making the annual dining experience a memory to behold. Along with her talents in the kitchen, her creative spirit was also evident in the art of crocheting,…with the many afghans she made as a testament to the work of her hands. Another skill she possessed was seen in her abilities to arrange flowers and her knack of bringing beauty to the world through floral design. She had a unique eye for putting them all together in just the right array, and her work was truly stunning. As for the element of fun, life was always a hoot down at the Bingo Hall. Dorothy absolutely loved the rivalry and competition that accompanied the game, but not nearly as much as making memories with her friends,…and oh, winning too! And fun came to Dorothy in a bit more of an emotional sense,…each time she was afforded the pleasure and joy of sitting with the grandkids while coloring. Those were just a few of the precious moments that she lived for and held close to her heart. Something unique and genuine to Dorothy was her amazing knowledge of sports. Theres never been a more devout fan of all the Detroit teams than her,…but it ran much deeper than your average sports fan. You see…as Dorothys kids and grandkids lives expanded into the realm of their own sporting pleasures, Grandma began to get questioned about things that were foreign to her. So in an effort to be more in touch, Dorothy began doing her homework with all things sports related, and also began watching sporting events like never before. And it wasn long before she had amassed immense knowledge, and even became the go-to person when a sporting quandary arose. Her loved ones will never forget, nor be impressed by, the lengths that their Mom and Grandma went to show she cared. Dorothy will also be remembered for her devout faith in God, and for the prayer warrior many knew her to be. She prayed the Rosary faithfully and was always lifting her loved ones up to God. In her own genuine way, she truly set an example for how we should live as unto the Lord, and do it humbly. And perhaps thats just one of the reasons she held the Christmas experience in such high regard. And even more telling that it is the Christmas season that God decided to call her home. Most of us love Christmas,…but Dorothy absolutely adored the holiday and found nothing more enthralling than the eason for the season. Its the time of year that she poured the best of herself into the lives of all who were blessed to know her, and Christmas just won be the same without her. Yet the love of Christmas is truly year-round, and her family bore witness to that fact through each act of kindness she shared with them, as well as to her fellow man. Dorothy leaves a legacy of love for all to treasure with each reflection shared. She touched a multitude of hearts and lives along the way,…may she, now, rest in peace. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late Richard. Dear mother of Gregory, Andrea (Ken) Bazydlo, Reechia (David) Hannah, and Paul Barc. Loving grandmother of Michael (Alissa) Barc, Andrew Barc, Amanda Barc, Alex Bazydlo, Kelly Bazydlo, and great-grandmother of Paige Olivia Barc. Cherished sister-in-law to Connie Zulczyk and Cassie Nowicki. Visitation for Dorothy will be held on , 21st from 3-9pm, with a 6:30pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons , 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. She will lie in state on from 10:00am until time of the Mass at 10:30am at St. Faustina Catholic Church, 14025 Twelve Mile Road in Warren. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet in Detroit, Michigan. Please share memories of Dorothy at her memory book above. |

Obituary: It was in the small southern town of Alva, Kentucky where Ruth Ann Barbu entered this world on the spring day of 12, 1940. She was the second of twelve children born to Samuel and Nancy Polly (née Moore). To support their large family, Sam worked for the railroads and later in the local mines while Nancy was a homemaker. Being the second oldest girl of twelve siblings, Ruth knew from an early age that she would have to be a second mother to her younger brothers and sisters to help her mother. Fortunately for everyone, Ruth possessed a strong maternal nature and could not have been a more loving substitute. Ruth was always considered extremely intelligent and an all around good girl who was willing to work hard to achieve the goals she had set for herself. She graduated from Black Star High School in of 1958. wards, she, like many young people from the south at this time, would migrate to Detroit to join the work force at the many automobile factories. Ruth found a job as a secretary at Chrysler Automotive and lived with her uncles and aunts. Around this time, Ruth would meet the love of her life, John Barbu, a fellow parishioner at Bethesda Church and worker at Chrysler Automotive. The two were wed on 17, 1959 at Bethesda. Their first home was with Johns mother and after her passing, they would move to their farm house in Macomb Twp.. Here, Ruth enjoyed planting fruits and vegetables in her garden and tending to it daily. While John would move up through the ranks at Chrysler eventually becoming an Executive, Ruth would seek employment in the Macomb School System. As time went on, she would earn several promotions and eventually was encouraged to go back to school to receive her teaching certificate. Always a lover of children, Ruth became a teacher and was extremely well respected by her students, their parents and fellow teachers alike. Ruth knew that she had taken on a great responsibility; molding the minds of small children and teaching them to be someone great was no easy task. But Ruth was an advocate for her students and made sure that each day they left her classroom having learned something. For years to come, former students would beam at the thought of Mrs. Barbu and what a wonderful teacher she was. Ruth would retire after twenty-five years of very dedicated service. When not busy with work, Ruth enjoyed traveling with her beloved John. The two enjoyed nothing more than loading up their motor home and heading for Oscoda, Michigan and to the Upper Peninsula where they would camp, hike and enjoy all the beauty that the northern part of the state had to offer. Ruth was also very devoted to her family. She was a wonderfully supportive mother to her two sons, Robert and Jason and as Johns health began to fail, she was with him through all of his doctor appointments and hospital visits. Even after her diagnoses with breast cancer in 1994, Ruth kept her illness a secret as to not upset her family. She continued to stay strong for her them and even helped raise her grandchildren, who she could not have been more proud of. Ruth was terribly considerate of everyone and you could always count on receiving a beautiful card from her for every holiday and birthday. Even with her own health problems, she always would call to check on her many relatives and friends just to make sure they were doing okay. The meaning of Ruth is friend, and our Ruth could not have been more appropriately named. a twenty year battle against cancer, Ruth Ann Barbu passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on the morning of May 19, 2014. She will be eternally remembered for her devotion to her family, friends and the many students who were blessed to have come under her tutelage. She was a loving lady who cared for everyone and was truly a beautiful spirit. She will be greatly missed. Ruth is survived by her sons, Robert and Jason; grandchildren, Nicholas, Sierra, Caitlin, Alexis, Alexander and Brendan; siblings Mary (Norris) Edwards, Bertha (Doug) Twiggs, Norma (Dane) Brooks, Betty (James) Ealy, Jimmy (Norma) Polly, Leonard (Mary) Polly, William (Phyllis) Polly, Charles (Dianna) Polly, Matthew Polly, Jerry (Lavonne) Polly and many extended loved ones and dear friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents and sister, Shirley Faye Polly. I Am In Heaven Dear Ones I am home in heaven dear ones; Oh, so happy and so bright! There is perfect joy and beauty in this everlasting light. All the pain and grief is over, Every restless tossing passed; I am now at peace forever, Safely home in heaven at last. There is work still waiting for you, So you must not idly stand; Do it now, while life remaineth - You shall rest in Gods own hand. When that work is all completed, He will gently call you home; Oh, the rapture of that meeting Oh, the joy to see you come! In Memory of Ruth Ann Barbu 12, 1940 - May 19, 2014 |
