Obituary: Andrew (Wally) W. Babb Sr - Age 87, of Scituate, passed away 5, 2016 at the Cardigan and Rehab .

Loving husband of 63 years to Eleanor (Porrazzo) Babb. Son of the late George W. and Ruth (Trask) Babb, Andrew was born in Brockton, MA where he attended Brockton High School Class of 1949.

He served in the Korean War as a Sergeant First Class in the Army Medical Corps. He and Eleanor married in 1952 and moved from Rockland to Scituate in 1965. his service Andrew was the staff manager at John Hancock Life Insurance, manager at Wausau Insurance and was the owner of Babb-Matheson Insurance Agency in Abington for over 40 years. Andrew was the past president of the greater Brockton Independent insurance association, the past president of the Rockland Jaycees, chairman of the Rockland Republican committee which kept him active in Republican politics in the 1960s and 1970s, past president of the Abington Rotary club where he was a 40 year member, He was a 50 year member of the John Cutler Masonic Lodge, lifetime member of the Old Abington Historical Society, former member of the Scituate Historical Society.

Andrew was an avid yachtsman owning 5 cabin cruisers named Laura Andrew. Andrew and Eleanor were members of the Scituate Harbor Yacht Club for over 49 years. He travelled the world with Eleanor. He was a past commander of the Old Colony Power Squadron, past commander of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the founding member and past president of The Babb Family Association. Andrew also took great pride in being a decedent of Phillip Babb, Isles of Shoals 1652.

Andrew will be remembered by his children Andrew W. Babb, JR, Laura M. Babb both of Halifax and Christopher J. Babb of Portland, Oregon; daughter in law Susan R. Babb of Scituate; grandchildren Rachel M. Babb, Julia D. Babb and Lauren E. Babb all of Scituate; brother George C. Babb of Cohasset; special niece Donna M. Fantasia of Hanover as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation is scheduled for , 9, 2016, from 4:00-8:00 p.m at Richardson-Gaffey , 382 First Parish Road, Scituate. A service of remembrance will be held on 10, 2016 at 11am in the funeral home. Rev. Collette Bachand-Wood officiating. Interment to follow at Groveland .

Berit Elise (Swenson) Baarsvik was born in Oslo, Norway on 28,1926. She was a lifelong resident of New Bedford, spending her later years at Sippican care in Marion. She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Sigrid (Nielsen) Swenson, and was the sister of the late Per Swenson from Oslo.
Bea as she was known to all, immigrated to the United States from Norway in 1946. She was the loyal and dedicated dental assistant for over 30 years to the late Dr. Lee Philips, an oral surgeon. Bea will be remembered for her sense of humor, her persistent Norwegian accent, and as a loyal friend to all.

Her surviving family include her children, David Baarsvik of Falmouth, MA, and Dr. Robert Baarsvik and his partner, Irene Mahoney and her daughter Aubrie Brault of Fairhaven. Her family in Oslo include her beloved nieces, Trinne Mette Swenson, her husband Lars, and her children Otto and Lily, and Christine Swenson, and her partner, Stig Atle.

Beas grandchildren include Kristian Baarsvik of St. Louis, MO, Dana Baarsvik and her boyfriend, John, of Providence, RI, and Maja and Brit Baarsvik of Falmouth. She has 2 great grandchildren, Ezariah Baarsvik and Haydenn a of Falmouth.

Bea wished that her services be private and that she be cremated. Some of her cremains will be brought by her family to Oslo in May, 2016 to be joined with her beloved Norwegian family.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sippican care for their exemplary care of Bea and their kindness to her and her family.

Obituary: Lucille (Pezzula) Van Baars, 85, of Needham, passed away on May 29, 2017, surrounded by family. Lucille was born on 10, 1931, in Albany, New York, and was the oldest daughter of Salvatore and Mary (Urbano) Pezzula. She attended Albanys St. Anthonys School followed by Cathedral High School, from which she graduated in 1948. singing a solo in a local vaudeville production entitled Heres to Youth, Lucille was cast as the Mistress of Ceremonies on Backyard Follies, a radio show performed by teenagers and which aired on WABY. The success of Follies led to a televised show for which Lucille again served as Mistress of Ceremonies; the Teen Age Barn debuted on WRGB TV in 1949 and went on to become the longest-running locally produced televised variety show in America. Lucille also performed regularly at Jimmy Barones Murray Inn and was a member of the Musical Comedy Players. On May 7, 1955, she married John Van Baars and moved to Massachusetts, where John worked for Delbrook Engineering and later Raytheon. John and Lucille rented an apartment in Somerville before buying their first home in Tewksbury and later relocating to Needham. When her children were young, Lucille enjoyed volunteering as President of the P.T.A. She was also Founder and President of The Squaws, a ten-pin bowling league later known as the makers. She was active and instrumental in the development of the CCD office and library at St. Williams Parish in Tewksbury and later became a dedicated member of St. Josephs Parish in Needham. She also served as President of the Needham Newcomers Club. When her children had grown, Lucille embarked on a long and successful professional career that included positions at Faith Casler Associates, Carters, and finally Babson , where she worked for 25 years and was the recipient of a Women Who Make A Difference Award as well as multiple Employee of the Quarter honors. In her free time, Lucille enjoyed reading, playing bridge, knitting, listening to opera and musical theater, researching her Italian ancestry, and cheering on her beloved Red Sox. Lucille is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Godin of Medfield; her son David Van Baars and his wife Marianne of Raymond, ME; and her son John Van Baars and his wife Linda of Yarmouthport, MA. She was also extremely proud of her six grandchildren. She is survived by her granddaughter Lisa Halliday and her husband Theo Collier of Milan, Italy; her granddaughter Andrea Halliday of Jamaica Plain, MA; her granddaughter Alexandra Van Baars of Holbrook, MA; her grandson Zachary Van Baars of Bellingham, WA; and her granddaughters Sasha and Natalie Van Baars of Raymond, ME. Lucille also leaves behind many dear in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins primarily in the Albany area. She was predeceased by her husband in 1999 and more recently by her sisters Rose Goffredo, Mary Ann Mancinelli, and Martha Francis. Visiting hours will be held in the Eaton , 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, on , 1st from 4-7 pm. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Josephs Church, 1362 Highland Ave, Needham, on at 10 am. Interment will follow at St. Marys , Needham.

Obituary: Wilma D. Vander Baan Whitinsville -Wilma D. (Van Gorp) Vander Baan, 97, died on 3, 2014, in Fort Wayne, IN. She was born on 8, 1917, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and moved to Whitinsville in 1937, before relocating to Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 2000. She held degrees from Clark University and Worcester State , and taught music at Whitinsville Christian School and in the public schools of Ashland and Uxbridge, Massachusetts. She was an accomplished pianist and organist, earning the American Guild of Organists Service Playing and Colleague Certificates, and serving Fairlawn Christian Reformed Church as head organist for more than forty years. In that role she played for services, accompanied the choirs directed by her husband, and established a summer Choir Camp in 1981. She was well-known as the author of Music Curriculum Guide and editor of The Childrens Hymnbook and Hymns for Youth. In Fort Wayne she worked with the Study Connection and the choir at Haley School and regularly accompanied services at Georgetowne Place Retirement Community. She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, IN. Surviving are daughters Susan Vander Baan and Barbara Resch (Richard); grandchildren Col. Jonathan Van Noord USAF (Sophia), Matthew Resch (Brenda) and Allison Breininger (Sean); greatgrandchildren 2nd Lt. Obituary: Thomas C. Fahey Jr. of West Roxbury B.P.D. (Ret.) passed away on 11, 2013. He was 90 years old. Born and raised in Jamaica Plain, Tom was a graduate of Mechanic Arts High School. From there he worked as a machinist until joining the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He was stationed overseas in the Pacific for twenty-nine months and eventually was discharged with the rank of Sergeant. Following in his fathers footsteps, Tom joined the Boston Police Department, became a member of the Drill Team and served as a police officer for twenty-eight years. Following his time on the BPD, Tom worked at the Gardner Museum in Boston. In his spare time, Tom enjoyed reading, watching movies and telling stories and jokes to family and friends. He attended classes at the Institute for Learning in Retirement at Boston and was very active in the St. Bartholomew Senior Social Club. Thomas was the dear and devoted husband of the late Marian (Bishop) Fahey. were married for fifty-six years and enjoyed traveling together to Oregon, Ireland, Cape Cod, Kennebunkport, Bermuda and the Bahamas. the passing of his beloved Marian he moved to Oregon to be near his children and grandchildren. He was an avid weather watcher and he appreciated Oregons milder climate. Tom enjoyed spending time with family and corresponding with family and friends back home. Tom was the Loving father of Thomas C. Fahey III and his wife Karen of OR and Paula F. Fahey and her husband Brian Smith of OR. Cherished grandfather of Colin and Liam Fahey of OR. Dear brother of Mary Schwarzer of Germany, Laurence Fahey B.P.D. (Ret.) of West Roxbury and the late John Fahey, Frank Fahey B.P.D. (Ret.) and Joseph Fahey. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Thomas Mass was celebrated 19, 2013 at St. Bartholomew Church in Needham.
