Obituary: 4, 1967, on a cold winter day in Salt Lake City, Utah a blue eyed, blond haired boy was born to Dennis and Mary Bowen. Immediately the conversation turned to what do we name our son. At first, my Dad wanted to name him Arrow. Why you ask???? You know how in school they read your last name first, well when they called out my brothers name it would be Bowen, Arrow. Of course, my mom said absolutely not. My Dad then wanted to name him Dennis Brent Bowen, Junior. My Mom said she did not want her son being called Junior. finally decided on Dennis Anthony Bowen (the middle name came from one of my Dads good friend). Throughout his life everyone just called him Tony.

When Tony was two and half, my Mom and Dad moved us to Penninger Drive in Boise, Idaho. One of my earliest memories is when Tony was about 3 maybe 4 we went to the circus. It was then and there he decided he wanted to be a Lion Tamer. One day we were outside playing, Tony walked down the cul-de-sac where there was this huge St. Bernard. It was really huge to me since I was only 5. He yells out Hey Mom - watch this - then proceeds to open up the St. Bernards mouth and sticks his head right inside. I thought my mom was going to have a heart attack. This should have been our first clue that my brother would go through life as an adventurer always on the edge and not afraid to take risks.

Tony moved around a lot as a kid (and as an adult). He lived with my Mom for a while in Boise then went to live with my Dad. He lived in Las Vegas, California, Salt Lake finally back to Idaho. Around the 7th grade he decided to move back to Alabama to live with my mom, Brian and me.

It is in Montgomery where he met his wife, Libby and started a family and his own framing business. had two children, Dennis Brent Bowen (born 25, 1989) and Kadie Marie Bowen (born 18, 1991). One story I have to share. Tony and Libby had two dogs - Bridgett (a Springer Spaniel) and Barney (a Black Lab). One day I was visiting and Tony says let me show you this trick - He calls Barney and says Barney - go get me a beer. Barney goes into the kitchen, pulls on a towel, opens the fridge, reaches in and pulls out a can of beer, then brings it Tony. I thought what a great trick. The only problem was that Barney never learned to close the refrigerator door. So Tony still had to get up and close the door (actually I think he yelled out Libby can you close the refrigerator door. He truly loved this time and often referred to his life with Libby and the kids in Montgomery as one of the best times in his life.

It is also in Montgomery that he met the love of his life, Stephanie. Their love was the kind that stands the test of time. Separated for years, they found each other again and again. had their challenges, as most relationships do but when it was good it was really good. Tony loved Stephanie like there was no tomorrow. He always knew she was the one he wanted to spend eternity with. We lost Stephanie three years ago to the Lord and I know that with his passing, he is now with her - his Sunshine.

One of the proudest moments in his life was the birth of his children. He loved Dennis and Kadie so much. He always worried that since he was not around all of the time they would not know just how much. Just the other day he said to me, Shel - you should see how beautiful my daughter Kadie is. She has grown into the most beautiful young woman. Check her picture out on my facebook. If you know Tony. he was a little addicted to FB (thats facebook for you non- users). And Dennis, his son, how proud he was of him. During his visit in Dennis said all he wanted to do while he was visiting his Dad was to see the snow. So, they went snow boarding. Tony called me just to share how much fun he had. Even though he broke his tail bone, they went back the next day. That visit was one of Tonys fondest memories that will never be forgotten.

Tony was a truly caring person, loved by all. Even when he was small, his heart was so big. He would do anything for anybody and he was one of the smartest people I knew and never did anything half-way. As a master framer - he could just look at house plans and figure out angles, where this beam needs to go, that beam. It was amazing to watch. And when he was doing something - he was DOING IT! Whether he was working on a project, framing a house, learning Spanish or just hanging out - he went at it with vigor and 110%. There was never a dull moment when Tony was around.

He loved his family with all of his heart. He loved to fish. He would go out for hours just throwing out the bait and reeling it back in. He loved his dog, Chance and loved to hunt. Just this year he was able to take Chance hunting for the first time - what a natural. He loved football. He played all through school and just totally loved the game. One of the greatest times in his life was the Huskies football game he went to with Dale. The Huskies beat the number one team USC. It took continued...
