Obituary: Rita L. Brushwein, 88, of Lewiston passed away unexpectedly on , Oct. 4, at her home. She was born in Lewiston on 31, 1927, the daughter of Wilfred and Evangeline (Bazinet) Lemay. Rita attended local schools in Lewiston. She married the love of her life, the late Philip Brushwein, on Feb. 7, 1948, and together they raised their family of eight children. Rita and Phil loved to camp and would travel the state, camping at different locations throughout Maine. During the winter months, they became snow birds, spending the winters in Florida and summers in Maine. Rita loved to play bingo and knit, putting her talents to good work by making mittens and donating them to the local schools for the children. She especially loved her girls day out with her daughters, nieces and whoever was able to join them. Rita not only raised her eight children, but she also helped to raise her grandchildren and many of the neighborhood kids who would frequently be found spending time at her house. She is survived by her three daughters, Karen and Gary Bazinet of Poland Springs, Nancy Derocher and Steven Weston of West Gardiner, and Kristine Brushwein and Stephen Beaudin of Lewiston; five sons, Keith and Kenzie Brushwein of Manchester, N.H., Philip and Mary Brushwein of Danville, Robert and Bonita Brushwein of Auburn, Gary and Cheryl Brushwein of Auburn, and Glen and Stephanie Brushwein of Auburn; several beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Lorraine Reed of Florida; and a brother, Frederick Bucky Lemay of Texas; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip; three sisters, Rolande Clark, Georgette Brushwein and Dora Girouard; and two brothers, Richard and Robert Lemay. Obituary: Philip Thomas Bruns, 74, of North Yarmouth died on 16. Phil was born in Portland, ME on 23, 1941 the son of A. Norman and E. Arlene Bruns. Phil attended local schools and graduated from Deering High School in 1960. Phil married his wife, Frances, soon after on 1, 1961. He then began working at various locations, some of which include; Merrill Transportation Co., Texaco Oil (until they closed their Portland location), a short stint being self-employed before finally settling into a position at Headlight Audio Visual until his retirement 9 years ago. Phil was a member of the First Baptist Church in Portland where he sang in the choir and was on the property commission. He passionately enjoyed fishing, hunting at his camp on Moxie Lake with friends and family, woodworking and helping his friends with projects. Phil is survived by his wife; Frances, his three sons; Dana S. Bruns and his wife Deena of Cape Elizabeth, David P. Bruns and his wife Susan of Citrus Springs, FL and Darren M. Bruns and his girlfriend Dawn Morton of Limington, his 5 grandchildren; Dylan, Drew, Jensen, Holly and Abbey. Obituary: Harland Thomas Bruns Sr. (known to his friends and colleagues as "Brunsy") died peacefully on 15, 2015, while being comforted by both family and the compassionate staff at the Gosnell Hospice House. He was born on 28, 1924 in Portland, ME. He was predeceased by his parents; Elsie (Clarke) and Harland B. Bruns; brothers, Robert E. Bruns and Richard C. Bruns, and beloved grandson Robert M. Prevost, Jr. (Matt). He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret Bruns of South Portland and his five children; Cynthia D. Hallett of Long Island, ME. Judith L Prevost of Gray, Timothy R. Bruns of South Portland, Katrina E Filippelli of Brentwood, CA, and H. Thomas Bruns Jr. of Falmouth. During the summers of his youth, and for many years as an adult, Brunsy lived on Long Island, ME., where his extended family is deeply rooted. He was a graduate of Portland High School, and served with the U.S. Navy during WW II as a Radar man on destroyer escorts. the war, he attended DeForest Radio Training School in Chicago, and was a graduate of Radio School in Cambridge, MA. He was Superintendent of the Chevron Oil marine terminal in South Portland for 30 years. Following his retirement from Chevron, he again took to the sea working on lobster boats and at Casco Bay Lines. He was more than capable organist, and enjoyed playing at weddings and gatherings with friends. He was a Mason with Hiram Lodge of South Portland as well as a lifelong member of VFW Post # 9605, Long Island, Maine. He is also survived by his six grandchildren; Bryan Prevost, Danielle Prevost, Rachel Filippelli, Jacob Filippelli, Riley Bruns, Keira Bruns and several nieces and nephews. His family would like to thank the staff at Gosnell Hospice for their care and support. Obituary: Joseph James Coach Bruni Sr., 90 formerly of Portland and most recently of Gorham died , 18, 2014 after a brief illness. Joe was born in Portland to the late Vincenzo and Gaetana (Villanucci) Bruni on 19, 1924. He attended local schools and graduated from Portland High School in 1942. Joe then proudly served his country during WWII in the Army Air Corps in the 823 Bomber Squadron 38th Bomber Group in the Pacific Theater. Upon his return to the States Joe met and married the former Eleanor Grant and together they began a family of their own. For several years Joe owned a television repair shop, Colonial TV. He also spent time as a machinist working for the Portland Co. and Nichols Portland. Joseph then spent his etirement years working as a bartender at Sullys, the Elks, The American Legion and the Sportsmans Grill. Joe was a member of the Elks, Eagles, V.F.W. and a 60 plus year member of the Harold T. Andrews Post 17 American Legion. Joe was also a lifetime communicant of St. Peters R.C. Church of Portland. Joe loved to spend time with his family. He attended Mass on evenings at St Peters Church and enjoyed get-togethers and trips to the lake with his kids. He was a beloved brother, husband, father, Papa, Big Papa and friend to many of all ages. Predeceasing Joe was his loving wife Eleanor, his son-in-law Frank Farwell and his four siblings, Antonio, Emillio, James and Mary. Survivors include his sons, Joseph J. Bruni Jr. and his wife Mary of Kennebunk, David Bruni and his wife Theresa of Buxton; his daughters, Sally Farwell of Standish, Catherine Bruni of Portland, Margaret Bruni of Portland, Elizabeth Pelletier and her husband Nick of Gorham; 15 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and one on the way. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and his dear friends Joe and Danny Sullivan. Family and friends are invited to visiting hours from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm on , 22nd at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins , 199 Woodford St. Portland. A 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial for Joe will be celebrated at St. Peters R.C. Church, 72 Federal St. Portland on the 23rd. Burial will follow at Calvary in South Portland.
