Obituary: Melissa Jane Rector Bourque died on Christmas Day at her home in Portland with her family after a long and courageous battle with Crohns disease and colon cancer. She was 47. Melissa was born in Boston on Halloween 1967, the daughter of Jane Christison Rector Coles and Frederick P. Rector. The family left its Needham, Massachusetts home in the fall of 1970 for a new life in Camden, Maine. Melissa was the youngest of four (11 years separated her from her youngest brother) -- and the only girl, among the Rector children. She lived a pleasant girlhood in Camden, participating in church, school and community activities. She enjoyed working at her brothers art gallery and, in the summer, loved nothing more than to sit and engage in her lifelong love of reading in a park that overlooked Camden Harbor. She attended Camden-Rockport schools until her junior year in high school when she and her mother moved to Portland. Melissa graduated from Deering High School in 1986 where she was a member of the National Honor Society and a participated in chorus and theater. She went on to the University of New Hampshire where she earned a bachelors degree in 1990. She then returned to Portland where she took a job as an admissions representative of then-Westbrook . While back in Portland, she met her future husband Michael Bourque. Melissa moved to the Washington, D. C. area to pursue a graduate degree at Johns Hopkins University but later moved on to a position as the Education Director for Junior Achievement of Central Maryland. She later transferred with Junior Achievement to the office in Greater Portland where she assumed a similar position. In of 1995, she married Michael and they began a nearly 20 year life together in Portland. In 1996, Melissa accepted to new job at the Greater Portland Chamber of Commerce where she served as Director of Membership and helped the Chamber grow to a record number of members. In 2000, she and Michael welcomed twins, Kathryn Rose (Kate) and William Michael (Will) to their family. The family lived on Bedell Street in Portlands Deering neighborhood, moving to Noyes Street in 2005. When the twins started school at the Nathan Clifford Elementary School, Melissa began avocation as a school volunteer, immersing herself in the schools PTO, leading events and becoming chair within a few short years. She later served on the Building Committee for the Ocean Avenue School. In 2003, after serving as a member of the Board of Junior Achievement of Southern Maine, she was asked by the chair to consider the opening as the organizations President, a challenge she accepted. She led the organization until 2010, helping thousands of Maine students to gain exposure to basic economic principles in school. When she left Junior Achievement in 2010, the organization enjoyed a financial boost from winning beneficiary status from the Beach to Beacon road race. She left JA to focus on her health, her family, and on many volunteer efforts -- almost all involving kids. When her own children moved on to middle school, she became a leading volunteer at King Middle School, leading the annual auction and earning recognition in 2014 from the Portland School Board as an outstanding volunteer. She also sang in the choir and volunteered at Trinity Episcopal Church where her family attends. She enjoyed -- and excelled at -- her role as mother to Kate and Will more than any in her life. She accompanied them to countless games, events and practices but she reserved a part of her love and concern for their friends and classmates. She knew them all by name and would often express her concern for the less advantaged children here in Portland. Melissa loved to sing, and in addition to her singing with the Trinity Church choir, she was a member of the Musica de Filia womens choir for several years. She loved a good margarita (on the rocks, with salt.), spending time at the familys camp at Damariscotta Lake and many hours in the Rector family kitchen in Thomaston. She fondly remembered family vacations to Europe and Alaska and her childrens performances in The Wizard of Oz in the KMS production in 2014. She is survived by her husband Michael and her children, Kathryn and William. She was predeceased by her mother, Jane Rector Coles, formerly of South Portland, with whom she had a long and special bond. She is also survived by her father, Fred Rector of Thomaston, whom she often called the most decent man on Earth, and her stepmother, Marian Rector. She is also survived by her three brothers, Frederick (Rick) Rector and his wife, Karin, of Camden; Christopher Rector and his wife, Betsy, of Thomaston; and Timothy Rector and his wife, Mary, of Waterville. Her family wishes to thank the countless friends who helped throughout her illness. would also like to thank the many nurses and medical professionals, including the Cindys from Hospice of Southern Maine and nurses at New England Cancer Specialists and on the Gibson Pavilion at Maine Medical . Obituary: Old Town-Joseph Frederick Freddie Bourque, 87, died peacefully 19, 2011 at a heath care facility in Orono. He was born 9, 1924. Freddie proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3381 and a member of Elks Lodge 1287. He was a hand sewer by trade and employed by Old Town Shoe. He retired from the University of Maine, Orono as a custodian. He will be greatly missed by his longtime companion of 35 years, Loretta Gallant and her family, Dianne Gallant of Old Town, Sonny and Nancy Gallant of Florida, Danny and Jeane Gallant of Salisbury, Mass., Debra Horne of Old Town and Brenda Gallant and Scott of Greenbush; many nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He is survived by two brothers, Francis Bourque of Wheaton, Ill., Reginald Bourque of Deippe, New Brunswick, nieces, Sandra Brown and husband Ed of Naples, Florida, Linda Willette and husband Parrie of Old Town, Charles Burke and wife Anne of Argyle and Brian Burke and wife Georgeia of Orland. He was predeceased by sisters Violet, Jeanne and Mary; and brothers Alcide, Adeodat, Anthony, Norman, Cloran and Yvon. A mass of Christian burial will be held on May 8 at 10 am at the Resurrection Parish (Holy Family Church) with Father Bill Labbe officiating. Obituary: AUBURN-Emile M Bourque of Turner, formerly of Colchester, CT, passed away on 18 at CMMC at the wonderful age of 91. He was born to Leon Emilien Bourque and Alice Belisle, Dec.16, 1924, in Warwick, PQ, Canada and grew up in Lewiston, ME/Holy Family Parish. He was formerly married to Lilianne Audet in 1950, they have two daughters, Louise and Michelle. Emile worked in the family business at Bourques Market. He joined the US Army in 1943, and was stationed in Mississippi, and served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He proudly became a United States citizen in 1944. He was a Lifetime member of the VFW Post 9945, Wethersfield, CT. and a communicant of St. Andrews Catholic Church in Colchester, CT. When Emile returned home, he bought his truck and had a route delivering Sonny Boy bread for Duponts Bakery. His children, as well as the neighborhood children, were happy when he came home at the end of the day with delicious baked goodies. He effortlessly could glide up 3 to 4 floors in many customers buildings without breaking a sweat! Emile moved to Connecticut in the early 1970s He worked and retired from Colts Mfg. in Hartford. He met and married his second wife, Elizabeth Taylor Stabile. spent their lives together in Colchester. When Elizabeth took ill, Emile kept her at home as long as he could, then he loyally visited her every day until her passing in 2012. He then moved to Turner, Maine with Louise & Norm. He spent recent winters in Florida with his siblings, Rita, Omer and Sue, and Gisele (Peggy) and DJ. There were several visits with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, always beginning with the special handshake. He has relinquished the teaching of the Pepere handshake to Carly and Elle and any new greats we are blessed with, to his oldest grandsons. While he lived in Turner, he enjoyed trips to the dump in his son in laws truck. Whatever the task he just wanted to help! He had a special gift for quieting an infant with his soft French lullaby. He loved all his family and enjoyed their company, cards, and letters, especially from the summer camp nieces and nephews! Emile was a true Canadiens, New York Yankees, and UCONN basketball fan, which made it interesting when our family of Boston fans would gather. Emile will be missed by people who have been touched by his kind heart, hugs, smile, and wise guy jokes. Survivors include siblings; Omer and Sue Bourque, Rita Arsenault and Gisele and DJ Jackson, Doris Bourque and Gaetan Joe Breton. Daughters Louise Ouellette (Norm Quirion) Michelle Bourque and fiancé Marcel Gosselin, stepchildren; Linda Rentler and Richard Stabile of Connecticut. Grandchildren; Angelique (Chris DeFeo) Andrea (Deron Plourde) Gary (Joe) Ouellette (Kristi), Christian (girlfriend Caitlin) Monique Gosselin, step-grandchildren; David Hockenberry, Carrie Rentler, Great-grandchildren; John, Bobby and Tommy DeFeo, Curtis, Camden and Carly Plourde, and Elle Ouellette, and Elizabeth's great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, & godchildren. He is predeceased by his wife Elizabeth, siblings Cecile, Jean Paul (JP), Theresa, Robert, Real and Pauline, in laws: Richard Arsenault, Henry Maurais, Kathleen Bourque, and son in law Gary Ouellette.
