Obituary: Richard Dick Besson, 69 Shawmut - Richard E. Besson, 69, of Shawmut, died unexpectedly on 29, 2016 in Portland. He was born in Monmouth on 23, 1946, a son of Irene (White) and Charles Besson. He was educated in local schools and after graduation from Monmouth Academy he enlisted in the US Army. active duty he continued his Army career with the US Army National Guard and retired after 26 years of service in 2006 with the rank of First Sergeant. In 1994 he received the Meritorious Service Medal. Dick served the State of Maine as a business manager and administrator, first for a Mental and then Bangor Mental . He was a graduate of the University of Maine in a. In 1995 he was appointed Dedimus Justice by then governor Angus King. Dick enjoyed bow hunting, target shooting and being a member of the Elks Club of Waterville. As much as he enjoyed the beach and being poolside, he preferred the water being 85 degrees. He began a traditional annual lobster feast that was enjoyed by family and friends. Dicks family was central to his life and he will be remembered as a good listener and a caring and compassionate man who loved his grandchildren - a wonderful Pepere and a truly amazing Dad. Dick is survived by his wife and soulmate of 29 years, Gail Besson of Shawmut; his son Nicholas Besson and his wife Sonya of Florida; his daughter Ann Holzworth and her husband Jay of Solon and their children, Autumn and Evan; his daughter Michelle Jackson of Farmingdale and her daughter Hallie; his brother Paul Besson of Litchfield; his aunt and godmother Frances Besson of Florida; his brother-in-law Ernest Hubert and his wife Alice of Shawmut; his close friends: Dana Charity, Gerry Gagnon, Bev and Rob Eaton (aka Our Foursome); Terry and Sharon Smith; as well as a large extended family and circle of friends. Visiting hours will be held on 6, 2016 from 2 - 5 PM at Veilleux , 8 Elm Street, Waterville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on 7 at 11:00 AM at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 112 Silver Street, Waterville, with a reception immediately following in the church hall. Obituary: WATERVILLE - Frances Roberta (Lowery) Besaw died 29, 2014 after a short illness. She was born to John J. Lowery and Margaret B. MacDonald 8, 1925 in Bath, Maine. Frances was pre-deceased by her high school sweet heart and husband Robert A. Besaw, daughter Margaret (Peggy) Marcoux, her parents and her six brothers, Clarence, Thomas (Ned), Earl, John (Jack), Arthur, and Robert. Fran was educated in Bath schools. She graduated from Morse High in 1943. While there; she met her forever love. Bob and Fran were married in Bath on 3rd, 1944. made their home in Bath where their 3 children were born. In of 1966, they moved to Waterville. Mom was a great baker, loved gardening, watching birds, wildlife in the yard and her kitties. She was an avid reader. She read to all her children and grandchildren. The trips to Canada, Mexico, Scotland, Norway and Northern Ireland with Her Bob were some of her favorite times. The resilience she had after Dads passing surprised all of us. She will be missed by her son Robert A. Besaw Jr. and his wife Anne of Owls Head, her daughter Lori London and husband Kent of Vassalboro; former daughter-in-law Linda Poland; Grandchildren Debra Davis and husband Tony of China, Katrina Newton and husband Rusty of Scarborough, Sherri Marcoux of Falmouth, Lindsay Bissell and husband Michael of Scarborough, Larry Marcoux of California and Ross London of Vassalboro. Her great-grandchildren include Samantha and Brianna Newton, Ryland Bissell and Emilia Corey, and many nieces and nephews. Frans family would like to thank Inez Trahan for helping her stay at home a little longer and the staff at Oak Grove for the loving care they provided her over the last few months. Obituary: DATELINE: Cape Elizabeth Alanna Clarice Besanko, age 84 of Scott Dyer Rd formerly of Cape Woods Drive, Cape Elizabeth died evening at Cape Memory after a long battle from Alzheimers disease. She was born in Orange, Mass, 22, 1930 the daughter of Kenneth and Clarice Cone. moved to Athol, MA in her early school years. Lana graduated early from Athol High School. She was very proud of the fact that she skipped two grades. While she was high school Lana was a cheerleader, a professional ballroom dancer and an accomplished student. She had originally planned on attending the University of New Hampshire, but was swept off her feet by a dashing young policeman, Richard Besanko and they were married in 1948. Lana was a stay home mom raising her 3 children until the children began school. She then began her working career for Avon where she had an outstanding career as a sales manager, winning many awards as the top sales manager in Massachusetts. In 1967, Lana and Richard moved to Cape Elizabeth where they resided until they moved to Manchester, ME in 1969. Lana was employed at the former Bank of Maine in a. In 1975, Lana and Richard would return back to Cape Elizabeth to reside in Shore Acres. She was employed at the former Sun Savings & Loan as an Executive Assistant eventually promoted to loan officer and then as a branch manager. In 1987, Lana joined the staff at Jones, Rich & Hutchins where she served as Office Manager until 1997. She later worked at Talbots for a while until she returned to Jones, Rich & Hutchins as a funeral attendant a position she absolutely enjoyed. Lana was a very outgoing and a professional woman who looked her best no matter what the task. She was an active member of her church, South Portland Congregational Church, singing in the choir proudly for 40 years! Lana also joined and sang in the Choral Arts Society. She was also very active in the ABWA, Dress for Success, and in her Cape Woods homeowners association holding different positions over the years. Lana loved to travel although Richard hated it, so she went without him.. to England, Hawaii, Oregon, Colorado, Florida, wherever she could go if flying was involved. Lana and Richard were active members of the a Country Club as well as Purpoodock Club for many years. both loved the game of golf, and hosted friends and family over the years at their member guest tournaments. On May 15th 2014, Alannas beloved husband Richard William Besanko died at the Gorham House. She is also predeceased by her sister Shirley, granddaughter Jessie Stead, son-in-law Rob Stead, sister-in-laws, Lois and Betty Besanko, brother-in-laws, Fred and David Besanko. Alanna is survived by her children, Kirsten Besanko of Port St. Lucie, Fla,, Kerry and her husband (Gary) Grindeland of Portland, Oregon, Larry and his wife (Carol) Besanko of Gorham, Maine, grandchildren Rachel and her husband (Mike) Zani of Orange, Mass, Brandi Edgell of Fort Pierce, Florida, Colin and his wife (Amber) Stead of Denver, Colorado, Hannah Stead of Eugene, Oregon, Lauren Besanko of Portland, Maine and Ben Besanko of Gorham, Maine. She also leaves behind great grandchildren, Julia and Bella Zani, Ryan Stead and brother-in-law, Donald Marble of New Hampshire and several nieces and nephews throughout the country. Also her adopted family Robert, Debbie, Matthew and Megan Barnes of Cape Elizabeth. Relative and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service for both Alanna and Richard on 6, 2014 at 12:15PM at Riverside , Cape Elizabeth where Military Honors will be presented by the US Marine Corp for Richard.
