Obituary: George Joseph Barker, 71, of Skowhegan, passed away 7, 2014 in Scarborough, Maine, at the Gosnell Hospice House. He was born 17, 1942 in Skowhegan, Maine, the son of Joseph A. and Bertha (Cayouette) Barker. George graduated from Skowhegan High School in the class of 1960; he then received his associate degree in business from the Skowhegan Business School. He owned and operated Georges Sports Shop in Skowhegan in the 1970s. His final and most rewarding job was at Uplift in Gardiner working with adults will intellectual disabilities. He was an avid tennis player and involved with the Lakewood Clay Court Association. As a younger adult he enjoyed boating and water skiing and years ago he would take some of the famous actors who visited Lakewood Theater out boating and water skiing. George leaves a son; Jeff Barker and his wife Tricia of Wells, his grandsons Cameron and Blake Barker of Wells. He was predeceased by his mom and dad and his twin sister Mary A Barker Visiting hours will be held on 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Smart & Edwards home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine, a funeral service will be held on 16, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with a committal to follow at the Calvary in Skowhegan, Maine.
