Obituary: Gary L. Beyerstein passed away at The Crossing at Clarity Hospice of Baton Rouge on evening, 2/19/2017 due to emphysema. Gary was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on 18, 1944 and raised in British Columbia. He was the oldest of two sons by mother, Dorothy Dot Genevieve Beyerstein, a ballroom dance instructor and father, Gilbert Bert L. Beyerstein, a sergeant in the Canadian army and an accountant. Garys final moments were spent with his daughter, son-in-law and closest friends who comforted him along his journey home to meet the Lord and become reunited with those who went before him. Gary is survived by his son, Jason Beyerstein, daughter Lisa Beyerstein Sadler and son-in-law Brandon Sadler of Irving, Texas, and his younger brother Ray Beyerstein of Vancouver, Canada. Gary was a jack-of-all-trades with a thirst for knowledge. He spent his life endeavoring towards learning many different areas of study. Always a lover of science and engineering, Gary began Burnaby Central High Schools first engineering club, leading in a special experimental electronics course where he graduated at the top of his class. He studied Engineering at the University of British Columbia prior to attending Commercial Diving School where he also graduated first in class. Prior to entering his long career in Commercial Diving, Gary took pride in his stint as DJ Charlie Brown on Edmontons top 40 Rock & Roll radio station in the 1960s. For a brief time he tried his hand as an entrepreneur as owner of Charlie Brown Cycle Sport, motorcycle and dive shop in Edmonton. As a passionate man of faith, Gary obtained a seminary degree from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Gary earned his general class amateur radio license in 2016 and enjoyed communicating on his ham radio. Gary had a long and respectable career in the Commercial Diving industry serving as tender, lead diver, HSE director, and consultant over various offshore projects. During his long tenure with SubSea International he set two world records diving in the North Sea for longest submersible saturation lockout. He also authored several divers safety manuals and several articles for various pro-diving publications. In his latter years, Garys happiest times were spent gazing at the open sky from his Star Master Dobsonian telescope. He was a member of the Ponchartrain Astronomy Society in New Orleans, a member of the Baton Rouge Astronomical Society, and a founding member of the Pushapatapa Astronomy Society and Pushapatapa Creek Observatory along with his dear friends Norm Ryan and Ron Keating. He loved science, history, astronomy, travel, reading, but above all he loved his children, his brother Ray, his friends, and the Lord. No formal visitation or memorial will be held. Garys closest friends and family will gather privately in to celebrate Garys life, achievements, and most cherished memories at Pushapatapa Creek. Obituary: SULPHUR - Sandra Lynn Bevers, 61, passed away peacefully , 18, 2015 in a local hospital. Sandra, a native of Morehead, KY, has resided in Sulphur for 27 years. She worked alongside her husband as office manager for their business BASSCO, Inc., a position that allowed her to enjoy her passion of family and gardening. Sandra will be remembered for her sweet and loving spirit. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 40 years, Dennis Bevers; children, Joel Bevers and wife Christy of Lexington, SC, Melissa McFatter and husband Justin of League City, TX, and Jonathan Bevers of Westlake; mother, Marjorie Tackett of Soapstone, LA; brothers, Roger, Douglas and Steve Tackett; five grandchildren; and numerous relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, Ernie Tackett. Her funeral service will be 2pm, , 21st in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial . Pastor Rod Martin will officiate.
