Obituary: Sylvia G. Banta, 87, formerly of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away peacefully, after a long illness, at Sunrise of Exton, Pennsylvania on , 21, 2014. She was the loving wife of almost 59 years of the late Maurice Banta, also of Baton Rouge. Born in Winnfield, Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late John and Edith Gates of West Monroe, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Sybil Gates, Anne Gates Berry, and Jeannette Gates Potts. Sylvia graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in Monroe, LA, and the Bish Mathis Institute, also in Monroe. Her career was spent early on as a private secretary for Olinde's Furniture in Baton Rouge, and later as a legal secretary for the law firm Taylor, Porter, Brooks, Fuller and Phillips, in Baton Rouge, and for the East Baton Rouge Parish Attorney's office, from which she retired in 1989. She was a Notary Public for many years. Sylvia was an active member of the Zoar Baptist Church in Baton Rouge for over 50 years, and served in both the adult and senior adult choirs during that time. Surviving Sylvia are her daughter, Maureen Lewis and husband, Fred, of Bernville, PA; her stepson, Ronald M. Banta of Fordoche, LA, and daughter-in-law, Debi Banta of Denham Springs, LA. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Matthew Lewis of San Diego, CA; Elizabeth Deal, and husband, Jessie, of Marlton, NJ; and Deion Banta, of Denham Springs, LA. She is also survived by her nieces Cindi Williams, Sharon Potts-Maxey (Keith), Melissa Berry, Meredith Grimes (Wayne) and nephew Marty Berry (Cindy), as well as several great-nieces and nephews. Sylvia was a loving mother and grandmother, and was a wonderful hostess, taking great pleasure in providing delicious meals for her family and friends. She loved reading, and in later years also enjoyed gardening. She took pride in the displays of attractive plants and flowers at her home. Sylvia also loved to travel, and with Maurice took numerous national and several international trips through the years. She and Maurice were active in the Friendship Force, opening their home to numerous international visitors over the years. Sylvia's calm and gracious demeanor endeared her to everyone she met. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Visitation will be on , 29, from 5 to 8 PM, and on , 30, from 12 to 2 PM at the Green Oaks , 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge. Obituary: Lillian Granny Banquer passed away on , 27, 2015. She has rejoined her beloved husband Harold J. Banquer in heaven. She was the loving mother to Bonnie Roussel(William), Douglas Banquer(Debra), Billie Sellars(Pat), Cindy Donaldson(Gerald) and Babs Ganucheau(Donnie). Granny held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren; Troy, Shawn R., Rebecca, Michael, Rusty, Timothy, Shane, Aaron, Jordan, Matt, Scott, Holly, Gabe, Kasi, Ben, Shawn S., Jeffrey, Josh, Brad, Wesley, Megan and her 32 great grandchildren. Lillian was born on 4, 1924 to Georgette Hotard and Ursin Jack Laurent Sr., who have since preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her sister Odele Duhe. She is survived by two siblings, Bud Laurent and Cecile Trepagnier, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and family members. Granny was a member of the Sewing Club, Sacred Heart Altar Society, Camping Club and Boy Scout Den Mother for many years. She will be greatly missed by all who had the blessing of knowing her. A special thank you to her extended family at Maison Oaks for all of their support and compassion. Obituary: Stephen Earl Bannon, of Slidell, LA and Destin, FL, passed away peacefully of natural causes at his home in Slidell on , Aug. 25, 2014, at 58 years old. Born in New Orleans, LA on Dec. 18, 1955, the third son of the late Edward C. Bannon and Virginia Clair Houston. Graduated from Salmen High School in Slidell, LA in 1973. Devoted husband to Phyllis Ann Kreger for 30 years; beloved father of JoAnna Clair Bannon. Stephen was a well-respected marine mechanic and commercial fisherman who was rarely seen without his trusty camouflage hat. He was an avid sportsman who loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, equestrianism, camping, motorcycle racing, skiing, and sailing. He took great pleasure teaching children and adults how to hunt and fish, spending winters at Peachburg Plantation in Union Springs, AL as a deer hunting guide. While living in Florida, he was a quintessential Louisianan, hosting crawfish boils, rooting for the Saints, and spreading the gospel of Mardi Gras and king cake. Like his father, he was a gregarious man, striking up conversation with strangers and using his wicked sense of humor to make new friends. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, he put his carpentry skills to work, tirelessly volunteering to help others rebuild their homes and delivering supplies to those in need. He is survived by wife Phyllis Ann Kreger; daughter JoAnna Clair Bannon; brothers David C. and Michael S. Bannon; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward C. Bannon and Virginia Clair Houston. As he wished, Stephens body was donated to medical education and research. Obituary: Olga Flanner Weigand Bannister, born 15, 1920, who enjoyed a life of 95 years passed away May 30, 2016. She was the wife of Bert P. Bannister for 48 years. She is preceded in death by her parents Hilda Falcon Flanner and Thomas J. Flanner, Jr. and granddaughter Dina Madary. graduating from high school she became a cosmetologist and worked as one for 25 years. In her high school years she learned art and expressed a strong desire to study art as her paternal grandfather did in Paris. her marriage to Bert, whom she met through Parents Without Partners, her wish was fulfilled as they travelled the world and Olga attended art school in France for a short time. She continued her art studies at Delgado while at home. Olga was a member of the Metairie Art Guild and served in many administrative positions including President. She was also a member of the New Orleans Art Association and the St. Charles Art Guild. She won many awards for her art, much of which was purchased by corporate and private collections around the world. She taught water color art (her favorite media) for 16 years for the People Program sponsored by the Saint Joseph nuns. Olga is survived by her three children: Henry (Buddy) Weigand, Jr. (Janie), Dana Laurent (Bubby), Pamela Sowa (John); four stepchildren: Bert Bannister, Jr., George Bannister, Ronald Bannister, Larry Bannister (Kate), twelve grandchildren: Sharon Whitney (Robert), Stephen Weigand (Chantel), Teresa Paulson (Eric), Arthur Laurent III (Melinda), Theresa Farrell (John), Robert Laurent (Jennifer), Cynthia Samuel (Gary), Angele’ Laurent, Julie Cardillo (Richard), Amy Sowa, Katie Sowa (Ben Stuchik fiancé) , John Sowa, Jr.; step grandson Gabriel Bannister; twenty-nine great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren.
