Obituary: Mike Brooks, 62, of Fort Smith, passed away , 17th, 2014. He was born 14th, 1952 in Fort Smith, AR. He was a retired Captain from the Fort Smith Police Department and a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ. He was preceded in death by his father J. R. Brooks and a sister Rebecca Ann Farrior. As a child Mike was very mischievous, thanks to having four older sisters who would spoil him and whom he loved to terrorize. But in his mothers eyes he could do no wrong. From bicycles and paper routes to karate and being a manager at K-Mart he was on his way to becoming the man that everyone loved and respected. Mike was a loving, caring and selfless man who put others needs above his own. Family was the most important thing in Mikes life. At the young age of 20, Mike was offered a management position with K-Mart in Texarkana, Texas. In as much as Mike was a true Razorback, his move to Texas brought him the love of his life, Kay. Upon his first glance at Kay, he told his brother-in-law, Jim that Im gonna marry that girl someday. had a whirlwind courtship and were married for nearly 42 years. were the living definition of the term soul-mate. his father passed in 1974 he brought his family back to Fort Smith where he would be closer to his mother and be able to help her with his younger siblings. Mike had a strong desire to help and protect others and that desire moved him to become a police officer. He joined the Fort Smith Police department in 1974. Through the years he moved up in rank and became president of the police association. He was an escort for the Vietnamese and worked for the US Marshals during the Cuban transfer. In 1987, Mike was selected to attend the FBI Academy at Quantico, VA. graduating from the Academy, he returned and was captain over Internal Affairs. Mike always said he uniform doesn make the man, the man makes the uniform. In retirement he was finally able to relax and enjoy life. Mike always loved to travel. His time in retirement was spent fishing with his sons and brothers-in-law, attending many Razorback games, and running around Chicago, Dallas, or wherever his best friend and Kays brother Larry was. Mikes love to serve others in need didn stop after retirement. He became a Red Cross volunteer which took him many different places including providing relief to his Brothers in Blue in New York at Ground Zero. Mikes list of accomplishments is quite long. To him, his marriage to Kay and the births of their children are his greatest successes in their lives. He was the best father any child could ever want. He led by example and taught many significant life lessons including leading a life of honesty and integrity for you only get one name in this life, what you make of it is up to you. Mike was the perfect combination of tough as nails and tender hearted. This love continued on tenfold with the births of each of his four grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Kay, one daughter Angela Kay Brooks of Fort Smith, two sons Robert Matthew Brooks of Fort Smith and Jeffrey Michael Brooks and wife Amanda Michelle of Fort Smith, his mother Pansy Brooks of Fort Smith, four sisters Carolyn Gann and husband Ted of Fort Smith, Mae Harris of Fort Smith, Linda Bentley and husband Jim of Visalia, CA and Cindy Miller and husband Monty of Kansas City, MO, two brothers Ricky Brooks and wife Debbie of Fort Smith and Ronnie Brooks and wife Lisa of Fort Smith and four grandchildren Thomas Canon Bray, Nicholas Ryan Bray, Kaylea Michelle Brooks and Taylor Danielle Brooks. Pallbearers will be members of the Fort Smith Police Department Honor Guard. The family will visit with friends from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM at Edwards . Obituary: Oliver Gordon Brooks, 84, of Bald Knob, died , 14, 2015. He was born 7, 1931 in Bald Knob to the late Hillis and Mae (Smith) Brooks. Oliver enjoyed 60 years of marriage to Eva Mae (Selter) Brooks until her death in 2013. He was a supervisor at General Industries for numerous years and of Pentecostal faith. He was an army veteran, loved farming and raising a garden. He enjoyed fishing and cooking in his spare time. Corporal Brooks proudly served in the U.S. Army as a cook.
