Obituary: Jacob Jefferson Bass, Jr., born 3, 1930, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on , 22, at approximately 11:30 am in Hot Springs, AR. Jake was born in Memphis, TN, and resided in Kentwood, LA, until moving to Mt. Ida, AR in 1989. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Elizabeth Marie Benefield Bass, his daughters Teresa Bass Lambert and husband, Mikel of Kentwood, LA, Angela Adele Bass of Hampton, NH, step-daughters Cindy McIntyre of Kentwood, LA, Patti Tolbert and husband Moose of Woodville, MS; grandchildren Jacob Joseph Bass, Alyssa Celene Torson, Alex Patterson Hughes, Jr., Benjamin Tolbert, Matthew Tolbert, Jennifer Cochet, Miranda McIntyre, and Elizabeth McIntyre; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents Jacob Jefferson Bass, Sr. and Edna Huselton Bass, wife Doris Stephens Bass, and sisters Betty Ward and Joyce Bass. Jake was a founding member of Sims Baptist Church where he organized and ran a food and clothing pantry that served the area for many years. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict and ran his own television sales and service business in Kentwood for over 30 years. Jake was a 60 continuous year member of the American Legion. A loving and caring man who was a faithful servant to both his church and the community, Jake will be missed by all who knew him until we meet again. A memorial service will be held at Sims Baptist Church on , 13, at 10:30am. Obituary: Retired Command Sergeant Major John "Buddy" Bass, 87, of Van Buren, passed away peacefully , May 23, 2017 at his home. He was born 27, 1930 in Deemer, MS to the late John and Clara Bass. A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam War, he dedicated his life to serving his country for 30 years as an artilleryman. He received numerous medals to include the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, and Joint Service Commendation Medal. He served three tours in Germany, four tours in Vietnam, two tours in Korea and one tour in Alaska. Buddy was a brave and loyal soldier. He was also a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His biggest passion besides serving his country and his family was traveling, gardening and bird watching. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Faye Bass, and a son, Randall Bass. He is survived by his children, John L. Bass Jr, JoAnn Bass, Renie Davis, Lynette Staton, and Sherri Bass; a sister, Martha Hill Dixon; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be 12:30 p.m. , 1, 2017 at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel with burial of ashes to follow at the Fort Smith National with Military Honors, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma of Van Buren, AR. Viewing and visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. , May 31, 2017, at Edwards Van-Alma , 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR. |

Obituary: James Clarence Bass, Jr, 51 of Norphlet died , May 26, 2017 at the Medical of South Arkansas in El Dorado. Born 25, 1966 in Smackover he was the son of James C. Bass, Sr. and Dorothy Lee Cox Bass. Mr. Bass had been employed as a roughneck in the oil fields. He enjoyed fishing and his canine companion, Poochy. He was of the Baptist faith. Preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Lisa Kay Davis Bass. Survivors include two sisters, Rhonda Chadwick (Wade) of El Dorado and Beth Bates (John) of Norphlet and two brothers, Dewayne Bass of Batesville, AR and Ulman Eugene Buc Buchanan of Austell, GA along with several nieces and nephews. A private memorial will be held at a later date. Cremation services entrusted to Youngs Directors. Memorials may be made to the family through Rhonda Chadwick, 2806 E. Main, El Dorado, 71730.
