Obituary: Heaven received a special angel at 1:10 a.m., , 30, 2014. Dr. Robert Earl Barros, age 70, passed away at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock, AR. He was admitted to the Hospital eight days prior. As many know, Robert had suffered untold pain for many years from various health problems. Robert was born in Detroit, MI, 24, 1943 to Wayne and Dorothy Fischer Barros. The family moved several times and he grew up in Lindsay, OK. He graduated Lindsay, OK High School in 1961, attended Cameron Junior , Lawton, OK 1961-1962 and Central State , Edmond, OK 1964-65. He received Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK 1966 - 1970. In summers Robert worked at The Green Giant in Wisconsin to pay for his college. Robert fondly recalled in Lindsay, OK during high school the nights he and his buddies would run the section lines hunting wolves (actually they were coyotes, but Robert said how could hunting Wylie Coyote be seen as macho!). He also loved running up to Enid, OK to the Bamboo Club to see Ray Price strum and hum. He moved to Little Rock because his parents had moved to Jacksonville AR. He wanted to be near them so he and his father could "do the things like fishing, etc. that they were unable to do when he was a boy". He practiced veterinary medicine with Bellevue Animal Clinic & helped in opening Asher Animal Clinic. Robert then opened his practice as Wakefield Animal Clinic. He retired from veterinary practice in 1991 for health reasons. addressing health problems i.e. surgeries, etc. he decided to work again & joined the USDA as a Veterinary Inspector. He was fortunate to be located at Odom's Tennessee Pride Plant in Little Rock for 10 years. In 2012 he went on Intermittent Status with USDA (just couldn't stop working completely). Robert married Margaret House May 23, 1981 and they began a journey that has been what each calls a "great ride" for 33 years. During that time they (with both working in their own fields) started taping speakers at Conventions, Conferences & Meetings of a 12 step Fellowship on weekends. This began a "ride" of collecting many new and lasting friendships in various parts of the country. He spent a great deal of time helping others and was known for "telling it like it is". He was asked by the Arkansas Veterinary Board to be involved with a Peer Assistance Committee to assist other professionals with alcohol and drug problems. He was predeceased by his mother & father, Wayne & Dorothy Barros; a brother, Gilbert Barros; and a stepson, Brooks Ruble Brown. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, stepsons Jay Brown and Ricky Brown, and two step-grandchildren, Hunter Brown and Elizabeth Brown. The family thanks the many doctors, nurses, and people who helped him through these long times. Donations may be made to charity of your choice or Wolfe Street , 1015 Louisiana, Little Rock AR 72202. Visitation will be , 1, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth , 5800 West 12th Street, Little Rock. Family graveside service will be private at Forest Hills Memorial Park. A Memorial Service will be at 11:30 a.m. at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth. A reception will follow the memorial service at their home. |
