Obituary: Agnes M. Burlingame, 87, of Davenport, passed away , 04, 2011 at the Good Samaritan in Davenport. services will be , 8, 2011 at 10:30 am at Grace United Methodist Church in Davenport. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm at The Runge Mortuary. Burial will be in Springdale in Clinton, IA. Memorials may be made to the church. Online condolences may be left at www.therungemortuary.com Agnes was born 29, 1923 in Davenport, the daughter of Oscar Sr. and Lydia (Schlaak) Stremlow. She was united in marriage to William C. Burlingame on the evening of 17, 1946 at Grace Church in Davenport. Agnes graduated from Davenport High School in 1941. She learned to play the piano from her father at age seven and taught herself how to play the organ. She was the organist for Grace United Methodist Church for over fifty years, often accompanying her husband, Bill, when he sang solos. She thoroughly enjoyed music having worked with the churchs Chancel Choir, Childrens Choir, Sunshine Choir and playing for weddings and funerals. She taught Junior High School and actively supported the United Methodist Womens group and numerous church-sponsored fund raising events. She enjoyed reading and collecting Womans Day magazine. Agnes also worked for thirty-nine years at Kays Furniture Store in Davenport, but most of all, she was a very devoted, loving wife and caregiver to her mother. Those left to honor her memory include nieces and nephews: Joanne Stremlow, Janice Stremlow and Jim Stremlow, all of Davenport; John Stremlow, Oklahoma City, OK; Jeff Moore, Milford, MI; David Moore, Jane Clark and Randy Moore, all of Minneapolis, MN; numerous great nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Ruth Stremlow, Davenport and brother-in-law, Rev. Lester Moore, Ames, IA She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Oscar Jr. and Robert, sister, Ruth Stremlow Moore and a nephew, Robert W. Stremlow. Agnes will be greatly missed by her family, friends, Grace Church friends and the many friends and caregivers at the Davenport Good Samaritan . |
