Obituary: John Biays Moore Bowerman, age 91, of Dubuque, IA, passed away peacefully at 10:40 a.m. on , 19, 2016, at home surrounded by his loving family. To honor Biays life, funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on , 23, 2016, at St. Patricks Church, 1425 Iowa Street, with Msgr. Thomas E. Toale officiating. To celebrate Biays life, family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. on , 23, 2016, at Behr , 1491 Main Street. Burial will be in the Crystal Township in Crystal Lake, IA. Biays was born on 2, 1924, in Towson, Baltimore Maryland, son of Biays and Mary Alice (Moore) Bowerman. Biays spent his formative years growing up in Ruxton, Maryland. Soon after his career began, Biays would find himself honorably serving his country in the U.S. Navy during both WWII and the Korean War. Biays would meet his soul-mate, Lois Powers, while stationed at Pearl Harbor and they would be united in marriage shortly after, on 24, 1951. Their union was blessed with 58 loving years together and 7 beautiful children. Biays heart would be broken when Lois was sadly called home ahead of him on 3, 2010. his service in the Navy, Biays would successfully complete his Masters degree from Catholic University and begin his professional working career in the field of licensed social work with Catholic Charities in Baltimore and Bellingham. Biays moved his family to Dubuque in 1960 to continue his career with Catholic Charities and finally moved over to Medical Associates where he stayed until his retirement in 1989. He was a longtime and faithful member of St. Patricks Church and would joyfully instill his firmly held Christian values into his growing family. In his free time, Biays would find time to help found the Dubuque Genealogy Society and volunteer countless hours at the Carnegie Stout Library in Dubuque. Biays was always a proud husband, father and grandfather and family was clearly a priority in his life. Whether leading by example, or a simple word of advice; all loved by Biays would never have to doubt his devotion to them. His soul now rests safely within the arms of his Savior and he is once again reunited with his deeply adored wife, Lois. We will miss Biays dearly and yet find comfort in trusting that his wonderful memories will fill our hearts and minds for generations to come. Those left to cherish Biays memory include his children, Stephen (Janet) Bowerman, Colorado Springs, CO, Joseph (Jane) Bowerman, Dubuque, IA, Mary Anne Bowerman, Dubuque, IA, Paul (Stacie) Bowerman, Wilmington, NC, Beth (Ken) Jaeger, Dubuque, IA, Rich (Jennifer) Bowerman, Hendersonville, NC, and Pete (Sue) Bowerman, Makanda, IL; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; 2 siblings, John (Gail) Bowerman, Frederick, MD, and Theo Duffy, New Jersey; and 2 sisters-in-law, Barbara Bowerman, Lutherville, MD, and Elizabeth Bowerman, Ellicott City, MD. Biays was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Smith; 2 brothers, David Bowerman and Daniel Bowerman; a sister, Shannon (John) Shure; and a brother-in-law, James Duffy. A John Biays Bowerman memorial fund has been established. The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque for all their compassionate and sincere care and support. |

Obituary: Viva Carole Bower, 80, of Clinton, Iowa passed away, with her family at her side, at Mercy Living South on , 2, 2015. services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on , 7, at Lemke s - South Chapel (2610 manufacturing drive - just west of Clinton Lawn ). A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Following the funeral service cremation rites will be accorded with burial at a later date at Clinton Lawn . Lemke s is assisting the family with arrangements. Viva was born 25, 1934 in Osceola, Arkansas the daughter of James and Della (Story) Whitehouse. She married Thomas Green on 14, 1950 in St. Louis, Missouri, he passed in 1966. She later married Pearl Shorty Engle, he passed in 1974. She then married Charles Bower on 14, 1975, he passed in 1989. For over 30 years Viva worked as a Nurses Aide for many health care facilities including, Sarah Harding, Mercy Hospital, Harbor Crest and others. She was very active in her Church, regardless of where she lived. From the time she was a teenager she was a member of the Salvation Army. She was a former Sunbeam leader in Clinton; all of the young people there grew up calling her grandma. Viva enjoyed socializing with her friends, loved playing Bingo and was a big fan of Country music. Above all, she loved her family very much and was not shy about telling friends how many kids, grandkids, great-grandkids and great-great-grandkids she had. Viva is survived by four sons - Thomas (Betsy Miller) Green of Clinton, IA., Timothy (Donna) Green of Fulton, IL., John Green and Robert Green both of LeGrand, IA.; three daughters - Laura (Daniel) Feller and Jamie David both of Camanche, IA., Lavina (Scott Reed) Engle-Reed of Clinton, IA; one step-son - Jim Bower of Nashville, TN.; one sister Kathy Gale of Waterloo, IL. with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great- great-grandchild. Preceding Viva in death were her parents, her husbands, one son - Steve Green, one grandson, one brother and three sisters Memorials made will be directed to the wishes of the family. |
