Obituary: Betty Jean Berg, 86, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on , 12, 2014, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. A visitation and celebration of Bettys life will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on , 20, 2014, at Ankeny , in Ankeny, Iowa. In addition, a memorial service for Betty will be held at 1 p.m. on , 22, 2014, at Cataldo Schott Chapel in Forest City, Iowa, with burial to follow at Oakland . Betty Jean Stefans was born 27, 1928, in Sioux Falls, SD to Walter Adam and Ada Fae (Kibbey) Stefans. She grew up in Des Moines and graduated from Roosevelt High School, class of 1946. Upon graduation, Betty enrolled at Iowa State University and met William E. Berg who swept her off her feet on a blind date. became a couple and later were united in marriage on 11, 1948, in Des Moines. The couple made their home in Forest City and was blessed with three daughters, Stephanie, Judy, and Cheri. She was a member of P.E.O. and the United Methodist Church in Forest City. Betty enjoyed dancing to all types of music, bowling, golfing, and gathering with friends and occasionally a trip to Prairie Meadows. She loved the holidays and took great pride in preparing the family meals and baking everyones favorite holiday treats. Most of all, Betty had a heart of gold and was always caring for others and wanting to put them first. Betty will be missed deeply by her daughters, Stephanie Murphy, Judy (Dick) Rue, and Cheri Berg all of Ankeny; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Berg, and a sister, Marjorie Wright. Bettys family would like to thank the entire staff at Taylor House Hospice for the exceptional care and love given to Betty and their family during her time there. Obituary: Lois V. Berez, 93, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully at the Alverno on , May 6, 2017. A service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on , May 9, at Lemke s - South Chapel. A visitation will occur one hour prior from 6:00 p.m. until the time of service at the . Honoring her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral service with burial at a later date. Lemke s assisted the family with arrangements. Lois was born 21, 1923 in Dallas City, Illinois, the daughter of Grover and Gertrude (Allen) Kendall. She was baptized Lutheran. Lois worked as a billing clerk for GTE Automatic Electric in North Lake, Illinois. Lois enjoyed dress-making, crocheting and needle point. She also enjoyed baking, candy making and hand painting shirts. She loved fishing and sitting by the river and bird watching. Lois is survived by one daughter – Lu Martin of Clinton; two grandchildren; six great-grandsons and many great-great grandchildren; one sister – Wilma Kendall and one brother – Don Kendall; with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding Lois in death were her parents, one daughter – Ellen; one sister - Betty and one brother – Ken. Memorials made can be directed to the wishes of the family. |

Obituary: Ramona Magdalena (Mahlberg) Berens was born on 15, 1928, to Henry and Josephine (Klein) Mahlberg near Earling, Iowa. She attended school in Dunlap and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in 1947. On 23, 1950, Ramona married Leo Laverne Berens at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Dunlap. The couple farmed for many years in the Dunlap area. also owned the Shamrock Inn and built the first mini-mart in Dunlap. Additionally, they owned and operated the Round-Up in Woodbine and Ramona also was a donut baker for the Caseys store. The couple enjoyed the Okoboji area and in 1988 they moved there. owned and operated the Country Club Pub and the New, Used & Abused Store. Leo died 26, 1995. Ramona was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church in Dunlap. She enjoyed gardening, baking, knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed ceramics, dancing, and listening to the scanner to keep up on what was happening. Wherever Ramona lived, she planted cherry trees. Ramona died on , 3, 2015, at the Dunlap & Rehab at the age of 86 years, five months, and 16 days. Ramona was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo; son, William Berens on 26, 2011; and all eight of her siblings, Roman, Delmar, Bill, Henry and Jack Mahlberg, Eileen McGinn Hanson, Clothilda Lyman and Gertrude ODay. She is survived by her two children, Robert (Francie) Berens of Omaha, Nebraska, Debbie (Bill Stageman) Hrabik of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Norine Mahlberg of Panama, Iowa and Virginia Mahlberg of Omaha, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends. |
