Obituary: James L. Burton, 82, of North Vernon, died at 9:05 a.m. , Aug. 28, 2010, at his residence. Mr. Burton was born on Jan. 10, 1928 in Columbia, Ky., the son of Oscar and Bessie Allan Burton. He married Phyllis J. Hatfield in Columbus on May 6, 1947. He was a tool maker at Cummins Engine Co. for 41 years and he owned JBs Used Furniture Store in Columbus for 40 years. Mr. Burton was a member of Columbus Moose Lodge. He served in the U.S. Army. He loved to work, cook and eat. Mr. Burton is survived by a son, Randy (Jenny) Burton of Seymour; a daughter, Donna (Darrell) Lockherd of Columbus; sisters, Christine Orner of Edinburgh and Linnie McCorel of Southport; grandchildren, Paula Rothrock and Crystal Ahlbrand of North Vernon, Christina Little of Alabama, Angel Wright of Holton; a stepgranddaughter, SueAnn Vancleve of Seymour; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, on Mar. 16, 1997; daughters, Terry L. Purtlebaugh and Nancy E. Hibbs; four brothers; and five sisters. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with the Rev. Douglas Smith officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. and from noon until service time . Burial will be at Garland Brook with military honors by the Bartholomew Veterans Color Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana. Obituary: Franklin DeLano Burton, 83, of Kokomo, passed away at 5:48 AM , 22, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital, Kokomo. Born May 15, 1933 in Columbia, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Lora Burton and Nannie (McEroy) Burton. He is a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War. He was employed at Haynes International for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of VFW Post #1152, Peru American Legion Post #14, and the Treeing Brindles. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, and going out to eat. Survivors include one son Kim (Chrystal) Burton of Peru; one daughter Cheryl (Damon) Hale of Peru; two sisters Nina Coombs and Hazel Burton, both of Kokomo; five grandchildren Amanda, Jennifer, Matthew, Alicia, and Mary; eight great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Gregory D. Burton, four brothers, and two sisters and one great granddaughter. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Golden Living Sycamore Village. services will be 12:00 Noon 28, 2016 at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 South Webster Street, Kokomo. Pastor Evan Strong will officiate. Burial with military rites by the U.S. Army and the Kokomo Military Rites Team will follow at Marion National , Marion, Indiana. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the mortuary. |
