Obituary: Russell Bex, 80, of Columbus, passed away , 13, 2010. Russell was born in Williams, Indiana, 4, 1929. He was the youngest of 12 children born to Manie Terrell Bex and John Logan Bex, including one child who died in infancy. Russell voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1947. He attended boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois, and afterward was dispatched to Seattle, Washington, for service. He served on the USS Toledo in the Japanese waters of the Pacific Ocean. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1950. Russell operated his own painting business in Columbus for more than 40 years, serving the greater Columbus area before gradually retiring himself. He enjoyed hunting, especially turkey, grouse and deer. He was a member of Garden City Church of Christ. Russell is survived by two sisters, Lucille Williams and Sarah Bright. He is also survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara Bex; three children, Nancy Lucas (Irvin) of Columbus and sons David (Candace) and Troy (Susan) of Indianapolis. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Rosemary Albright (Todd) of Columbus, Ginger Hiatt (Wayne) of Columbus, Andrew Bex, Alexander Bex, Zachary Bex, Elizabeth Bex and Hayden Bex of Indianapolis; and five great-grandchildren, Macy Albright, Madison Albright, Haley Hiatt, Jackson Hiatt and Chloe Hiatt of Columbus. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimers Association or Hospice of South Central Indiana. Calling will be at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street from 3 to 8 p.m. (Feb. 16). service will be conducted at 11 a.m. (Feb. 17) at Garden City Church of Christ. Burial will be at Garland Brook with military graveside rites conducted by Bartholomew Veterans Color Guard. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.myers-reed.com. |

Obituary: Marilyn J. Bewick(nee Wilson), age 89, of Calumet Township, a life long resident of the area passed away 2, 2009. She was a graduate of Lew Wallace High School (class of 1939). She was preceded in death by her loving husband, George, who passed away , 1998. ( were married 57 ½ years), sisters, Lucille(Frank) Jevicky, and Gertrude(Wayne) Corkan. She is survived by sons Lonnie (Lynne) Bewick of Toronto, Canada, and Dr. Charles ( Connie) Bewick of Culver, Indiana; grandchildren: Craig (Debbie) Bewick, Gurnee, Illinois, Shelley (Larry) Deem, Loveland, Ohio, Keith (Jen) Bewick, Palisades, California, Scott Bewick, San Francisco, California, Brent Bewick, Denver, Colorado, Dr. Sharon Bewick, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Sean Bewick, Macon, Georgia; great grandchildren: Amy, Ryan, Jason, Emily, Clayton, Connor, Madeline, and Owen; brother in-laws: John (Althea) Hormell, Pennsylvania, Dr. Charles (late Betty) Bewick of Indiana. She is also survived by her precious dog: Flopsy. Marilyn worked many years for both Dr. Paul S. Yocum Sr. and Dr. Paul S. Yocum Jr, retiring in 1992 after 29 years of service. She was a member of Ross Reformed Church, Eastern Star Chapter 58, (recently celebrated 50 years of membership), and Griffith Swinging Seniors. Visitation will be held at Kuiper , 9039 Kleinman Rd., Highland, Indiana (2 blocks south of Ridge Rd.) on , 6, 2009 from 3-7 PM.
