George then went to work as an electrician with the East Allen Schools for 20 years before retiring in 2004. He was a charter member of NKPHTS. Obituary: NOTRE DAME- Margaret Golden Berges went to her eternal reward and rest while surrounded by loved ones in her home, shortly before her 95th birthday.
Margaret Golden Berges was born in New Haven, CT on Feb 14, 1921. She was the daughter of John Matthew and Margaretta Stumpf Golden. She attended St Louis French Parochial School and New Haven High School. She received a degree from Trinity in Washington, D.C. in 1941 and Katharine Gibbs School of Business in Boston in 1942. Margaret was then employed by the FBI as a secretary and French and Italian translator.
Margaret married the love of her life on 26, 1942: Lt. John Allen Berges, an MIT grad from Ansonia, CT. She continued her work in Washington while he served the war effort in North Africa.
the war the couple lived in Holyoke, MA for several years before Jacks many promotions in the General Electric took them to Fort Wayne, IN, Caldwell, NJ, Brockport, NY, Louisville, KY, and Sterling, IL. Retirement was enjoyed in South Bend, IN as part of the Holy Cross community and fans of Notre Dame academia and athletics.
Margaret was a full time homemaker and mother of six children. She was a talented flower gardener, wonderful cook, loved to travel, and enjoyed years of golfing with friends and family. She was a loving aunt to her sister Frans two boys and gold star grandmother to an ever growing clan. While running the household, Margaret volunteered untold hours to the family churches, schools and communities. Her heart and hands were given to the less fortunate around her. She was especially dedicated to her work with children in special education.
Margaret is survived by her sister Frances Krenisky of New Haven, CT; nephews John, Peter (Theresa), and Peters children; sister-in-law Nancy Berges of Long Island, ME; children John (Claudia) of Rolla, MO; James (Catherine) of St Louis, MO; David (Debra) of Stamford, CT; Michael (Inara) of Baltimore, MD; Anne Marie (Ravi) Pillai of South Bend, IN, Patricia (Jack) of Winona, MN; 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband Jack, brother-in-law Emil, infant son Joseph and great-grandchild Stephanie.
Visitation will be on , Feb 12 from 5 – 6:30 pm at the Kaniewski , 3545 N Bendix Drive, South Bend. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am , Feb 13 at St Joseph Chapel, Holy Cross Village with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial to follow in Highland . Obituary: Jack Berges passed to eternal life at the age of 94 with his wife of 71 years by his side in his home. Born in Ansonia, CT in of 1920 to Emil and Lillian Wehrle Berges, he had tales to tell of the depression, hand cranked windshield wipers and emptying the coal bin.
He worked as a golf caddy as a youth and learned a sport that he enjoyed with family and friends nearly all his life.
Jack attended MIT where he was in ROTC, played on the golf team, and graduated in 1940 as a mechanical engineer. He worked as an engineer for Babcock and Wilcox of Beaver Falls, PA and Worthington Pump and Machinery in Holyoke, MA. In 1942 he joined the war effort as a second lieutenant in the U.S.Army ordinance department.
Margaret Golden became his lifelong bride on 26, 1942 in New Haven, CT before he shipped out to North Africa. He finished his service at Frankford Arsenal in Philadelphia after recovering from malaria and retired from the army in 1946 with the rank of Captain. Jack was awarded Honorary Member of the British Empire for his assistance to the British Army while overseas.
In 1950, Jack began a 35 year career in management with the General Electric . His promotions took the family to Fort Wayne, IN; Caldwell, NJ; Brockport, NY; Louisville, KY and Sterling, IL. His last position was as General Manager of Appliance Control Manufacturing in Morrison, IL, Carroll, IA, and Singapore.
Jack and Margaret retired in 2002 to Holy Cross Village at Notre Dame, South Bend, IN, where they continued to golf and enjoy all the benefits of an academic community.
No matter the community he was in, Jack always shared his talents and resources with all that he could, serving on many school boards and parish committees. He continued in retirement as a board member at Holy Cross . A lifelong proponent of ethics in business, his children endowed The John A Berges Business Ethics Lecture Series at Notre Dame University in his honor .
Jack is survived by his wife Margaret; sister-in-law Frances Krenisky of New Haven CT; nephews John and Peter Krenisky; children John (Claudia) of Rolla, MO; James (Cathy) of St Louis, MO; David (Debra) of Stamford CT; Michael (Ina) of Baltimore, MD; Anne (Ravi) Pillai of South Bend, IN; Patricia (Jack) Karnick of Winona, MN; 21 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by infant son, Joseph, and great granddaughter Stephanie Berges. His one brother Emil Berges preceded him in death by one week.
Kaniewski of South Bend is assisting the family with arrangements. A visitation will be held , 8 from 4-7 pm . service will be at 10:30 am 9 at St Joseph Chapel, Holy Cross Village with visitation one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to Holy Cross of South Bend, IN or your favorite charity.
As Jack told his children many times over the years, Its been a great run, its been a great 18 holes.

Obituary: MARY ANN BERGER, 58, passed away , 20, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of Judy Horlander King and the late Robert James Grantz, Mary Ann was born 3, 1958 in New Albany. She earned a Masters Degree in Education, was a special education teacher in Kentucky for 27 years and was the recipient of the WHAS Excel Award for excellence in teaching. Mary Ann changed the lives of everyone she met, but especially the many children she worked with over the years. Along with her passion for teaching, Mary Ann loved to shop, scrapbook, cook, travel and read. She loved her family and cherished her friendships. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Hosparus for their special care and compassion extended to Mary Ann and her family.

Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Charles Chuck Berger; son, Aaron Berger (Lindsey); daughter, Erica Hunt (Brad); grandsons, Edan and Beckham Hunt; mother, Judy Horlander King; sisters, Robin Zimmerman, Lisa Dailey and Gina Uland; and 6 nieces and nephews.
