Mrs. Baniewicz was born 5, 1937 in Chicago, Ill. to Otto and Catherine (Bruen) Albrecht and lived in the area for 24 years, coming from Burbank, Ill. She was a homemaker. Obituary: Martin Marty Vincent Banicki, 67, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 6:26 a.m. , 27, 2017, following a lengthy illness. Marty was born on 3, 1949 to the late Bernard E. and Christine S. (Kwiecinski) Banicki in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with his parents; one sister, Karen Banicki-Patton also preceded him in death. Marty graduated in 1967 with the first graduating class of LaSalle High School, before joining the U.S. Marine Corps., where he served his country from 1967-1973. He was retired from the Indiana Toll Road, where he worked as a Supervisor for many years. Marty is survived by his son, Vincent Martin (Maegan Schmidt) Banicki of Elkhart, IN; and three sisters, Maryalice (Kenneth) Miller of South Bend, IN; Therese (Skip) Ray of Lake Panasoffkee, FL; and Roberta Banicki of South Bend, IN. Marty was a member of Christ the King Parish; M.R. Falcons Nest #4; St. Joseph Young Mens Society; The Army & Navy Union, U.S.A., Inc.; American Legion Post #284; and the Clay Democratic Club, where he served as a Past President. He was an avid Notre Dame, Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Blackhawks fan. Marty also enjoyed fishing, playing darts, singing, playing guitar, and listening to the Beatles. He was a 1954 graduate of Washington High School. On 25, 1959, he married Sharon A. DeFreeuw in South Bend, IN. Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Banicki; his daughter, Pamela (Thomas) Walkowiak of South Bend, IN; his sons, Michael Banicki of Mishawaka, IN, Kenneth (Delphine) Banicki of Lake Elsinor, CA; his grandchildren, Christopher Walkowiak, Shaun Banicki, Tori Banicki; and his great-granddaughter, Emma Banicki. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Banicki, deceased 1951, Josephine (Grochowski) Turza, deceased 29, 2000; his stepfather, John Turza; and his loving daughter, Deborah A. Banicki who went to God after battling a longtime illness on 13, 2000. Larry was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier after 37 years. Larry was passionate about his music, he was a musician in South Bend from 1950-1981. He was orchestra leader of The Continentals dance band for 21 years and entertained at several Navy shows. He was a member of the N.A.L.C. Union Branch 330, past member of Musicians Local #278, attended Michiana of Commerce, and was one of the original members of the Jokers Jacket Club. He was a member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church. He worked for the South Bend City Parks Department for 42 years. He was an assistant superintendent for Erskine Golf Course for 27 years, before retiring as the Small Engine Repair specialist for the South Bend Parks Department. retiring he spent many hours at his son Rons gas station doing small engine repair and teaching his grandsons how to work on small engines. He loved to Bowl, Golf, Play Cards, Camp and Travel. He was a member of the South Bend City Tournament Championship Handicap Bowling Team in 2010 with two of his sons, John and Ron, his grandson, Jason and his longtime friend Larry Paszli. He and his wife have been lot owners at the Plymouth Jellystone Campground since 1987. He was a member of West Side Democratic Club. He also served as a Democratic Precinct committeeman for 30 years. He was a hardworking, devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who never met a stranger. He loved to sit on his front porch with family, friends and his dog Izzy to visit and to talk to anyone that walked by. He always put others in front of himself. He could always be found helping others who needed help. Be it running errands for neighbors who couldn get out or taking them to appointments when they could not drive. He loved helping others. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. , 18, 2015 at Kaniewski , 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Parish Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will also be from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. , 19, 2015 at Kaniewski , South Bend, IN.
