Obituary: Wayne E. Baird, Sr. 91, of Normal, took the hand of his Savior, Jesus Christ, who took him home to the Father at 3am, 2, 2013 at Evergreen Place, Normal. Wayne was born 2, 1921 at Heyworth to Virgil Roy and Mary Stratton Bell Baird. He married H. LaVerne Weicht 26, 1942 in Pittsburg, KS. Surviving are his children, Mary Louise (Joseph, Jr.) Van Valey, Bloomington, Carol Ann Emmett (James) Smiley, Bloomington, Lynda Kay (Timothy, Sr.) Arnold, Normal, Wayne Elmond (Elizabeth [Miller]) Baird, Jr., OFallon, Susan Rene Weiss (Parke) Weatherford, Plano, Cynthia Elaine (Mark) Segobiano, Bloomington, and Elizabeth Joan (Don E.) Minikel, Chisinau, Moldova; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; 1 brother, George (Edith) Baird, Boise DArc, MO; and 1 sister, Charlene Baird, Bloomington. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Merle Gene and James H. Baird; a son-in-law, Jack Emmett, Jr.; grandson, John Emmett III, and great-grandson Bodie Bauer. mass for Wayne will be held at 11am , 8, 2013 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 4-7pm , 7, 2013 at East Lawn , Bloomington. A prayer service and time to share memories will begin at 6:30pm . Father Doug Hennesy will officiate. Entombment will follow services in East Lawn Memorial Gardens mausoleum. Wayne graduated from Bloomington High School in 1940 and attended Premier Boys State where he received a Civil Service Certificate for the office of Fire Marshall and Certificate of Appointment as Commissioner. He served his country during WWII from 1942-1945 with the Army Air Corps, and retired after 35 years of service with the Bloomington Post Office in 1987. Wayne was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Normal American Legion Post #635, APWU, and the Bloomington Moose. He enjoyed bowling, traveling, being outdoors, and playing cards. He was a St. Louis Cardinal fan for over 70 years. He loved attending activities and events of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and wrote his autobiography to pass on to them, as well as spending time with the rest of the gang. Obituary: Morton - Sara J. Baird, 39, of Morton, passed away at 12:34 a.m. , 26, 2015, at her parents home after a five month battle with Sarcoma cancer. She was born 30, 1976, in Peoria, to Jim and Carolyn (Springer) Isbell. She married Loren Baird on 26, 1997 in Morton. Surviving are her husband, Loren of Morton; three children, Samuel, Thomas and Naomi Baird, all of Morton; her parents, Jim and Carolyn Isbell of Morton; one brother, Andy (Angie) Isbell of Lawton, Mich., three sisters, Becky (Chris) Meyer of Morton, Joan (Trent) Sauder of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Jackie (Terry) Gray of Morton. She was preceded in death by her grandparents. Sara graduated from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, with a degree in family ministry and pre-counseling. Sara was a part of many ministries for those in need and the disabled. She owned and operated Lulus on Main in Morton. Sara had a lot of creativity that she expressed as a seamstress at Grimms Inc., a piano teacher, a photographer, an avid knitter and working with the special education students at Morton Jr. High School. Sara had an infectious smile and loved to make people laugh until the end of her life. She loved her family and enjoyed getting together with her siblings. She was the craft queen and had a large collection of unfinished projects in her basement. She also loved Facebook, Pintrest, cats and watching the Doc Martin television series. More than anything else, Sara loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a member of the Anglican parish, Christ Church Limestone in Hanna City. A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. , Sept. 30, 2015, at Grace Church in Morton, with Pastor David McGrew and Abbot Luis, OSB officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. , Sept. 29 and 9 to 9:45 a.m. , both at the church. Burial will be in Hirstein in Morton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sara Baird Family Benefit Fund c/o Morton Community Bank, 218 N. Main St., Morton, IL 61550. |
