Obituary: Gerry Bender, 91, passed away peacefully with family by her side at The Cottages of Meridian on 19, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimers Disease. She was born Helena Geraldine Burch on 14, 1924, at her family farm in central Kansas. She completed high school in Roxbury, Kansas, and graduated from Stewart Beauty Academy of Cosmetology in Salina, Kansas. In 1946 she married George Bender of Wakeeney, Kansas. had four children and were married 50 years before his death in 1997. Her husbands career took them all over Kansas with a stop in Illinois before relocating to Nampa. It wasn long after they got settled that Gerry took a position with the Idaho Free Press as a rural paper carrier. Her customers could set their clock by her paper delivery. If the paper was 10 minutes late, they would know there was something wrong. She worked for the paper for more than 37 years before retiring in 1997. Gerry was a generous and loving mother who cared deeply about her family. Spending quality time with them, no matter the activity, was one of her greatest joys. She was an incredible cook, loved gardening and was an exceptional seamstress. All of her children and grandchildren can attest to her seamstress skills as she made many beautiful quilts and craft items for her family, her church and other charitable organizations. She couldn say no when it came to helping others. She always found time, no matter how busy. Gerry not only loved her family and community but she always had a soft place in her heart for her pets. One of her many activities that she enjoyed was playing cards with her family and pinochle club. In addition Gerry was very active within her community. Trinity Lutheran Church was Gerrys second home. She volunteered in many positions including the hospitality committee and Church Council. She was a member of the Nampa Treasure Valley Lioness organization and the Civic Auxiliary. Gerry had incredible stamina, amazing energy and an excellent work ethic. She would say she wanted to stay busy and she certainly did. Her love and wonderful disposition will be missed by her family and friends. Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four sisters and one brother. Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Linda and Douglas Gurka of Alexandria VA; Christine and Douglas Bender of Boise, ID; Cheryl and Creighton McNeill of Meridian, ID; and Karen and Rocky Young of Salt Lake City, UT; nine grandchildren, and two great granddaughters. Gerrys funeral will be at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Nampa, Idaho, at 10:30 am on , 24, 2015. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Cloverdale , Boise, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Gerrys name to the Trinity Lutheran Memorial Fund at the Trinity Lutheran Church. |

Obituary: Kenneth Bement Kenneth Harlon Bement, born May 8th 1938 to Harlon and Beth Bement with three younger brothers, Ron, Bob and Dave. He returned to his heavenly father 27, 2015. His early years were spent serving in the US Air Force, one tour, where he learned about small engines. He and his wife, Judith, married 8th 1968. had 4 daughters, Jala (Dewayne Huft), Tawnya (Miles Stewart), Kyanne Johnson, Shalene (Tom Siegers), twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild succeed him in life. his service he worked for Pitney Bowes as the northwest regional service tech. He later went to work for Twin Falls Parks and recreation building many of the bridges, docks, and pavilions that our community gets to enjoy. Working on them were his pride and joy. he retired, he spent a lot of time with his grandkids, hunting, fishing, camping, traveling and nature watching. He loved to tinker with everything. He would work on anything anyone gave him. services for Kenneth will be held at 1:00 p.m. on , 31, 2015 at the Canyon Ridge Ward LDS Church, 824 Caswell Ave. West, Twin Falls with Bishop Greg Schroeder conducting. Burial will follow at the Filer . Military honors by the Magic Valley Honor Guard and US Air Force Honor Guard. Obituary: Jaala Hilary Bement, 35, of Prairie City, Oregon, passed away 27th, 2015, in a Boise hospital from complications due to breast cancer. Jaala was born on 18th, 1979 in Ontario, Oregon to Timothy and Debra Bement. Jaala grew up and attended her first years of grade school in Ontario. She was outgoing and made friends easily. She enjoyed playing softball and soccer. She was kind and compassionate to those around her. She gave unconditional love to her many pets. When she was in the fourth grade, Jaala attended dance classes and landed a starring role in a production of Peter Pan at TVCC. She enjoyed water skiing, family camping trips and vacations. She loved riding her bike, swimming and playing with her friends and two younger brothers. She had a vibrant, active, outgoing personality that enabled her to live life to the fullest. In 1991, Jaala and her family moved to a farm in Payette, Idaho. She and her younger brothers, Kyle and Daniel, embraced the lifestyle change and adapted to farm life very quickly. were all involved in raising crops and farm animals. Jaala was very active and successful in FFA. She played softball and basketball in high school. She was a member of the Payette High School swing band. earned the opportunity to perform at the Fiesta Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona. During the trip, they stopped in Disneyland and had a memorable experience. Her junior year, she was chosen to go to Girls State Legion Auxiliary which promotes patriotism, good citizenship and advocacy for veterans. Jaala completed her high school diploma at Clackamas Community in Oregon City, Oregon. She gave birth to Victoria Lianne Bement in of 1999 in Redmond, Washington. The most mournful day of her life was when Tori, at only 3 months old, died of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). The death of her firstborn utterly broke her heart. Jaala became very active in raising both funds and awareness for SIDS after this tragic loss. Jaala then returned to live in Payette and married Justin Fenton in 2001. She and Justin lived in Fillmore, Utah when their beautiful daughter Jessica was born. Jessica was the light of Jaalas eyes. Jaala and Justin moved to McCall, Idaho and lived there for several years. Unfortunately, their marriage ended in divorce. Jaala lived in the Boise area after this, most of the time. She had another beautiful daughter, Laci, in 2007 while briefly living in California. She and Laci eventually moved back to Boise. Jaala struggled with substance abuse for many years. She had repeatedly stated that cancer ultimately saved her life as she was able to overcome the addictions in the last year of her life, while undergoing treatment for breast cancer. She was able to reconnect with her family and heal some of the wounds and broken bonds that her addictions had severed. She stated numerous times how very happy she was to have her family back, her family joyfully reciprocated the affection . Ultimately, cancer took her from us, much too soon. We will miss her wit and smile, happiness and kindness, all of our days here on earth. She was a shining star. Her name means divine surprise. She definitely lived up to her name. We learn the fragility of life and the need for human kindness and understanding from Jaala. May she rest in peace and know how truly loved and missed she is. Jaala is preceeded in death by her infant daughter Tori Bement, her brother Kyle Bement and grandfather Dick Bement. We find comfort in knowing they have been reunited. The loss of Jaala is suffered by her two daughters, Jessica Michelle Fenton and Laci Jane Gibson, her mother, Debra Coates, of Boise, Idaho, her brother, Daniel Bement, and father, Timothy Bement, both of Portland, Oregon. Grandmother Sharon Coates of New Plymouth, Idaho. Many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, a Nephew, many friends and extended family. Her greatest aunt Barbara Wisenor, who was of tremendous support for Jaala in her battle with cancer. Barbaras giving spirit was a constant motivator and comfort to Jaala during the 19 months she fought for her life. services with be held at Cloverdale in Boise, Idaho, 21st at 2pm. Jaala will be laid to rest with her Grandmother that she never knew, Myrtle Beatrice (Clabo) Widner and her infant daughter, Tori Bement, as were her final wishes. Internment of her cremains will be at Middleton following the funeral services.
