Obituary: Vieva Cline Byars, 83, of Rome, GA, passed away evening, 17, 2011, at a local hospital. Mrs. Byars was born in Calhoun on May 8, 1927, the daughter of the late Walter O. Cline and Sudie Erwin Cline. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Leroy Byars, in 1980 and by a daughter, Carol Byars Brinson, on 5, 2005. Mrs. Byars retired from Battey State Hospital, now Northwest Regional Hospital, and was a member of the Battey Retirees Group. She was a member of the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church and the Happy Timers Senior Adult Group. Survivors include two sons, Timothy G, Byars, and his wife, Lisa, Marietta, and Louis C. Byars, and his wife, Gina, Rome; two daughters, Elaine B. Selman, and her husband, Greg, Rome, and Ann B. Flanders, Athens; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren; and two sisters, Emogene Corbin, and her husband, Clell, Marietta, and Marie Hobbs, Marietta. services were held , 19, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniels with the Rev. Chris Hearne officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Family members served as pallbearers. The family received friends in the chapel of Daniels on from 12 noon until 1 p.m. |

Obituary: Janice Alexander Byars, 76, of Rome, GA passed away , 23, 2010 at her residence after a five year battle with Alzheimers. Mrs. Byars was born on 30, 1933 in Floyd the daughter of Noel H. Alexander and Emma Carter Alexander. She was a life long member of the church she truly loved - St. Peters Episcopal Church. She was born into the church, christened, confirmed, married, saw her daughter, Becky, wed and buried her son, Bill, Jr., in 1991. St. Peters was dear to her heart. Mrs. Byars was a longtime member of the Rome Junior Service League and worked as a receptionist at both West Rome High School and Darlington School for a number of years. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, William M. (Bill) Byars; a daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Jones, and her husband, Lee; a granddaughter, Abigail (Abby) Jones; a sister, Sarah Kilgore; a brother, Noel H. Alexander; a niece, Cary Kilgore; a nephew, Ellis Kilgore (Claudia); and two great nieces, Catie Nelson (Matt) and Kelley Kilgore. A memorial service will be held , 27, 2010, at 2 p.m. at St. Peters Episcopal Church with the Rev. Roger Ard officiating. A private interment will be held in the Memory Garden of St. Peters Church prior to the service. The family will receive friends in Daniel Hall of St. Peters Church following the memorial service. Dr. Jay Harris will officiate. The family will meet friends from 6 - 8 p.m., in the gathering area of the Christian Life , Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church. Mrs. Byars, daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson Harrison and Eula Daniel Harrison, was born in Wrightsville. She had lived in Macon most of her life and was a graduate of A. L. Miller High School. Mrs. Byars was a member of Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church for fifty-six years and was the founder of the Nursery Department and Mothers Morning Out program of the church and served as Director of Nursery Services. She was a member of the Howard Community Club, Monroe Historical Club and the Georgia National Guard Auxiliary. Mrs. Byars also worked as a substitute teacher at Tattnall Square Academy. Mrs. Byars is survived by her family whom she adored, her husband, Rodney Byars of Macon; her daughters, Patricia Stanfield of St. Simons Island and Nancy (Ian) Kistler of Macon; her beloved grandchildren, Emma Stanfield, Cole Stanfield and Ben Trofemuk; her sister, Dian (David) Prochazka of Issaquah, WA and several nieces and nephews.
