Obituary: Imogene Groover Brannen, 87, died peacefully , May 2, 2015 in Ogeechee Area Hospice surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Brannen was an eighth generation Bulloch Countian born in Statesboro to the late Walter Grady and Edith Mae Kennedy Groover. Imogene was a 1958 graduate of Georgia South University (Georgia Teachers ) and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Statesboro. She was a former member of the Ladys Golf Association at Forest Heights Country Club and was a charter member of the Bulloch Historical Society, where she had served as Vice-President and Secretary. She was also a member of the American Legion Post 90 Ladies Auxiliary. Imogene served as Regent, Vice-President, Chaplain and held most every Chairmanship within the Daughters of the American Revolution and was often called The Flag Lady due to her patriotism and love of country. Imogene was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Dock A. Brannen and her sister, Frances Groover Tillman. She resided at Southern Manor Retirement Inn for the past five years, after the death of her husband. Imogene is survived by 3 children, Brenda Johns and her husband, Mike of Statesboro; Janet Gorny and her husband, Thomas of Ponte Vedra, FL and Dock Brannen and his wife, Angel of Guyton, five grandchildren, Michelle Hancock and her husband, Cliff of Sandersville, GA, Richard Hendrix of Mobile, AL; Brent Hendrix of Statesboro; Thomas M. Gorny and Chaddwick Gorny both of Ponte Vedra, FL.; six great-grandchildren also survive. The family will receive friends 4:00 to 6:00 PM , May 3, 2015 in Hodges-Moore . service will be held 2:00 PM , May 4, in the Chapel of First Baptist Church of Statesboro with Dr. H. William Perry officiating. Entombment will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Brent Hendrix, James Leeb, Michael Gorny, Chaddwick Gorny, Cliff Hancock and Ralph Cowart. Obituary: Douglas Allen Brannen, 43, of Pembroke, GA passed away 25, 2014 after a short illness. He grew up in Chatham and just recently moved to Bulloch . He is predeceased by his father, Ralph Douglas Brannen and a sister, Marisa Elizabeth Brannen; maternal grandparents, Pete and Della Hart; paternal grandparents, Allen Joseph Brannen and Ethel Futch Brannen; and step grandmother, Elizabeth (Libby) Brannen. He is survived by his mother, Merle Hart Brannen; a brother, Anthony Tony Maurice (Jami) Brannen of Garden City; sister, Jenna Victoria Brannen of Pembroke; 2 nieces, Taylor and Katelyn Brannen. Doug was past worshipful master if the Frank F. Baker Lodge in Garden City; a longtime volunteer with the Garden City Fire Department and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Garden City. Obituary: Statesboro, Ga. Mr. Dock A. Brannen, age 83, died at Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. He was a native and lifelong resident of Bulloch and was a member of First Baptist Church. Mr. Brannen was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, having served in the United States Navy and the Air National Guard. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hampton and Lucille Brannen. Survivors include his wife, Imogene G. Brannen of Statesboro; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Mike Johns of Jacksonville, Fla., and Janet and Tomm Gorny of Ponte Vedra, Fla.; one son and daughter-in-law, Dock and Angel Brannen of Statesboro; three grandchildren, Michelle and Aaron Clements of Sandersville, Richard Hendrix and Brent Hendrix, both of Mobile, Ala.; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at Hodges-Moore . The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Hodges-Moore with Dr. H. William Perry officiating. Entombment will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Historical Society and special friends Frank and Dee Ramsey. He graduated from Georgia Southern University with a degree in Business Management and also attended Georgia State University. He was a member of the ATO Fraternity. Bishop was the manager of the Chevrolet Division at Brannen Motor in Unadilla and was a former Ford and GM dealer in Waynesboro. Bishop was a graduate of the General Motors Leadership Academy. He was an avid NASCAR fan and a former crew member for Bill Elliott. He was a former member of First Baptist Church of Unadilla.
