Obituary: Nadine ONeal Bowden, 86, of Senoia, GA, died 4, 2011. A native of Doerun, GA, Mrs. Bowden graduated from Doerun High School. She lived for many years in East Point, GA, moving to Senoia in 1970. She was employed by Georgia Highway Express as a collections agent, retiring in 1988. She is preceded in death by her husband, Howell Bowden; four siblings, Mallie ONeal, Wallace ONeal, Katie ONeal Lane, and Jeri ONeal Dickson; and a precious granddaughter, Sarah Katelyn Bowden. Obituary: Margaret Bethea Bowden, 99, of Atlanta, peacefully passed away of natural causes 8, 2014, in her home surrounded by family and loved ones. "Mamie", as she was affectionately known by all that loved her, was born in Greensboro, Georgia on 13, 1915, to her parents, Mary Morgan Weaver and Thomas Jefferson Bethea. As a young child, the family moved to Madison, Georgia where she spent the remainder of her childhood. Fishing for perch and brim were among her favorite childhood activities. She graduated from Morgan High School in 1932. graduating from high school, Mamie moved to Washington, DC where she worked for the Woman's National Party for one and a half years. She then returned to Madison where she worked for the Morgan Agent's Office, a job to which she was devoted and spoke of often during her life. In 1936 she moved to Atlanta to continue working. There she met her future husband, James Richard Bowden, a dapper US Naval officer, who was later stationed in Annapolis, Maryland. On 7, 1943 they were married in Baltimore at The Massachusetts Avenue Methodist Church. Mamie loved to paint china, garden, and sew. She was extraordinarily proficient in her crafts, and spent hours each day working to perfect her skills. She attended to gardening everything from African violets to roses and ferns, all the while searching for the perfect fabric to make her own dresses. She hand painted china for the Governor's mansion collection. Mamie was a member of both the National and Georgia China Painters Guild. In addition to other charities and associations, she was a Benefactor of Saint Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain, South Dakota. She also was a loyal follower of the children's choir at Northside Drive Baptist Church. All that being said, her first priority in life was always family - her true calling - attending to her husband and raising two daughters. Additionally, she spent countless hours helping raise her eight grandchildren, rarely missing a grandchild's ballgame or special event. She spent most of her life offering her assistance, service or company to anyone in need. She was always there to quickly and selflessly lending an ear or a helping hand. Her family will always hold dear the most cherished memories of the countless holidays gathering at her house, where she always welcomed her guests with a wonderful homemade turkey dinner garnished with her biscuits, cornbread stuffing and home-made eggnog. The family would like to thank all of the wonderful doctors, friends and caregivers who showed such love, patience and attention to her along her journey; especially her beloved long time special friend Alfredo Silva. She is survived by her two daughters, Margaret Bowden Moore and her husband Dudley L. Moore, Jr. and Patricia Bowden Thomas, both of Atlanta; eight grandchildren: Dudley L. Moore III, Margaret Moore Chambers, Richard Bowden Moore, Bartow Morgan, Lane Bowden Moore, Laurin Morgan Farrior, Richard Brand Morgan and Paul Magnum Morgan; fifteen grandchildren: Bartow Morgan III, Morgan Lera Farrior, Robert William Chambers IV, Moultrie Everett Morgan, John Rex Farrior, James Richard Chambers, Westly Maclaurin Farrior, Brand McAllister Morgan, Brand Nunnally Farrior, John Gabriel Morgan, English Bethea Morgan, Margaret Patricia Moore, English Bethea Morgan, Hugh Lane Moore, Hayden Louise Moore, Henry Donald Bowden Morgan. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, who passed away in of 1985; sisters Mary Thomas Link, Valinda Bethea Kinsey, and brother Thomas Jefferson Bethea, Jr. A graveside memorial service will be held on 10, 2014 at 2 o'clock at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs. The Reverend Bill Britt of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Children's of Atlanta, The Independence Fund or the charity of your choice. |

Obituary: Janette Anna Lee Lansden Graves Bowden, just "Jan" to everyone, never met a person she did not befriend, found a recipe she could not improve, nor lived a day without a smile and a laugh. Jan delighted in all forms of adventure. On 9, 2015, surrounded by her family, she embarked on her grandest journey. If there are pie crusts in Heaven, Saint Peter is in for a treat. Born 7, 1935, the eighth child of a Harlan , KY coal miner, Jan learned early the importance of self-reliance and having brothers and sisters to look out for her. Her surviving brothers Carl and Hugh Lansden, and sister-in-law Skees, fulfilled this role to the end. Jan's life-long fascination with the culinary profession had its humble origins when Jan, like all of her siblings, was conscripted by her mother Bertha to work in the family-owned L&N Restaurant in Knoxville. Her true passion was not fulfilled until many years later when, after founding one of the most successful restaurants in Avon Park, Florida, she and husband Don Bowden, rekindled the 1924 era Santa Rosa Hotel. For the next 20 years, Café 1924 was among the best restaurants in all of Florida. While Jan had worked as a legal secretary and executive assistant, it was cooking that she truly loved. Whether veal piccata or fried okra with green tomatoes, so long as Jan cooked, the result was superb. But it was the pies – chocolate seduction, coconut cream, pecan, chess, apple, lemon, peach – that made her famous. Even Paul Newman was impressed. Jan's smile was infectious and her kindness unrivaled. Her family was close and her friends were dear. She and Don shared a love for travel, food and wine (not always in that order). Jan was incredibly proud of daughters Mara Holley and Robin Davis, and doted on grandsons Jordan and Marshall Davis, and grand-dogs Bud and Mumford. She had more friends than ever could be recognized here. Jan was mischievous in spirit and forever young at heart. Her passion for life extended to fast cars, card games and all manner of escapades. Whether exploring Paris by Segway, traveling to Vienna to see the Boys Choir at Christmas, or a road trip to visit family wherever they may be, Jan was "in." For more than a decade Jan proved that cancer was no match for her indomitable spirit, so long as she had family and friends at her side. Don passed, Jan split her time between entertaining friends in Sebring, Florida and enriching the lives of Mara and Bill Holley in Atlanta, Georgia. As all who loved her knew, Jan hated "goodbyes" and preferred to look forward to the next visit. We look forward to that next visit, and sincerely hope that there will be pie. In lieu of flowers, do what Jan would do – share quality time (and perhaps a glass of wine or a slice of pie) with those you love.
