Obituary: Mrs. Gladys Bowden was born on 20, 1929, to the union of William Webb and Sophia Thorpe in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, WI. Gladys received her formal education through the Jamaican Public School System. In 1961, she married the late George Bowden and enjoyed 44 years of marriage. No children were born from this union, however, they raised Simone Edwards as if she was their own. In 1977, she immigrated to the United States. She devoted her life to caring for others. Aunt Gladys, Sister Bowden loved to dance and sing. You could catch her on any day belting out a gospel song that would bring tears to your eyes. Oh, don forgot about the old school reggae when she wanted to show you her favorite dance moves. And if you wanted to test how smart she was, you only had to try to beat her at Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy or Price is Right. She also loved to travel but not by car…..she wasn the best driver …it took her five times to pass her driving test. Gladys accepted Christ as her Savior and was an active member of The Church of Christ on Gem Street in New Haven. She loved God first and foremost. She was a child of God from birth to rebirth. She was resourceful and one of the most caring individuals you have ever met. Her word was her bond, which is a virtue in todays times. As her health start failing, her nephew Austin took care of her until her final day. Gladys Bowden was truly blessed and departed this life on 26, 2015. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, George, and sisters Biryl, Joyce, Phyllis, and brothers Cecil, Robert, Alfred and Varnel. She leaves to cherish her memory three sisters, Lucille, Lorraine, and Myrtle; child, Simone; and a host of nieces, nephews, loving relatives and friends. |

Mr. Bowden was a former Building Official for the City of Lagrange, GA. He served his country as a Marine during WWII, was an original Member of Edgewood Church of Christ, loved to fly, hike, and spend time with his family. The family will receive guests for visitation , 18, 2015 at 2:00 pm , one hour prior to the 3:00pm Service in the Mill Room of Striffler-Hamby, 407 Macon Rd. Obituary: David Morrow Bowden, age 42, of Athens passed away on , 27, 2013. He was born in Decatur, Alabama, on 2, 1970, and moved to Athens with his family shortly thereafter. David grew up in Athens and graduated from Cedar Shoals High School in 1989 where he was a member of the Cross Country team. He later graduated from the University of Georgia with an A.B. in History. David was a life-long member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where his Father served as the Minister. He was very active with the youth ministry and youth athletic program for many years. Upon completion of his A.B. degree at UGA, David served as a Volunteer of Christian Mission in Bridgewater, England. He then served on the denominational staff for the Presbyterian Church in Louisville, Kentucky, followed by serving as the Youth Director of the First Presbyterian Church in Tupelo, Mississippi. David then moved to Atlanta where he worked as a Talent Relations Manager for the WCW. During this time he met and later married Lindsey Sullivan, and they moved to Athens. David continued to serve with his wife Lindsey at Covenant Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder and a youth group leader. At this time he was employed at Athens Regional Hospital. David later earned his M.B.A. from the UGA Terry of Business. Then David and Lindsey moved to Memphis, Tennessee where David and his business partner were owner/operators of several Zaxbys franchises located in Northern Mississippi and NW Arkansas. During their stay in Memphis, David and Lindsey were blessed with the birth of two children: Thomas, age 4 and Natalie, age 1. While continuing to operate the Zaxbys franchises, David and his family returned home to Athens to live. He resumed active membership in Covenant Presbyterian Church and served on the Stewardship and Finance Ministry Team as well as the Youth Renovation Team. David is survived by his parents, Jim and Jere Bowden, wife Lindsey, son Thomas, daughter Natalie, brothers Bill (Eydie), Mike (Sandra), Steve (Deedee) and their families. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Athens on , 4 with the Reverend Mark Harper and the Reverend Beecher Matthes officiating. There will be a visitation and reception immediately following the service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that contributions in memory of David be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1065 Gaines School Road, Athens, GA 30605, or the Montreat Conference Campground, Montreat, North Carolina.
