Obituary: Willa Deane Stuckey Birchmore passed away quietly 20, 2015. She was born 12, 1918 in Brunswick, Georgia to Eugene and Sadie Elder Stuckey. She attended David Lipscomb in Nashville, and entered the University of Georgia as a junior in the School of Business in 1937. During her student years at the University, she worked for historian E. Merton Coulter, typing handwritten letters written around the time of the War Between the States. Later she worked for Dr. R. P. Brooks, Dean of the School of Business. On a field trip to Stone Mountain, she met Fred Birchmore, who had recently returned from a two-year trip around the world on a bicycle. married on 21, 1939 and took their honeymoon on a bicycle built for two, cycling through Cuba and into Panama, the beginning of a life of happy adventures together. When WWII began, Willa Deane trained with the Civil Air Authority to ferry planes across the Atlantic to England for the Royal Air Force. Her plan changed, however, with the birth of her first child, Rebecca Jane Birchmore (Becky Bedingfield Campen). When Willa Deane and Fred moved back to Brunswick, she worked for J.A. Jones Shipyard, helping cut patterns for Liberty Ships. Fred was called into active combat prior to the birth of their son, Fred Christopher Birchmore. During the war years Willa Deane would catch the train to meet Fred when his ship came into port; on Victory in Europe Day she and two-year-old Becky were in Times Square in New York when the celebration began. the war was over Willa Deane and Fred moved to Happy Hollow in the Five Points area of Athens, which became the focal point for myriad adventures. There were many family camping trips across the North American continent; Willa Deane and Fred were both Girl Scout Leaders. With her encouragement and support, all four children, including postwar additions Melinda Thach Birchmore (Musick) and Daniel Alexander Birchmore, became champion tennis players as well as excellent students. When her youngest child entered elementary school, Willa Deane returned to the University to obtain a Masters degree in education, followed by a teaching career that included two years at the Athens Area Vocational and Technical School, and eighteen years at Athens High School, teaching business education. retiring from teaching she and Fred took trips all over the world, hiking the Milford Track in New Zealand, and being among the first to visit newly opened Russia and then China. She particularly enjoyed their travels in the eastern Mediterranean and along the Norwegian coast, and made multiple trips to the British Isles, sometimes accompanied by children and grandchildren. Willa Deane helped set up and manage her younger sons rheumatology practice. This experience helped her advise both her daughters when they started practices in dermatology. An initiate of Phi Kappa Phi, her astute business sense served as example to her older son, an administrative supervisor for CalTrans and real estate investor. Always supporting the aspirations and ambitions of her children and grandchildren, she modestly coordinated and managed her familys diverse activities. She nourished, comforted, and encouraged not only her family but also her students and her many friends. An avid gardener, she was a member of the Ladies Garden Club, the Athens Bird Club, and was active in the Athens Kiwanis Club. She was an annual tenter at Poplar Springs Camp Meeting near Canon, Georgia, and a loyal member of the Fellowship Class of the Athens First United Methodist Church. She is survived by her sister, Loretta Stuckey Cramer; four children: Rebecca Jane Birchmore Bedingfield Campen (Mrs. Thomas Campen), Frederick Christopher Birchmore, Melinda Thach Birchmore Musick(Mrs.Joseph Musick), Daniel Alexander Birchmore; eight grandchildren: Christine Jane Bedingfield Kraeuter (Mrs. Scot Kraeuter), Marvin Bradford Bedingfield, Herbert Marvin Bedingfield,Jr.,Frederick Christopher Birchmore, Jr., Katherine Rose Birchmore, Joseph Alexander Musick, Katherine Thach Musick, Michael Carter Musick; eight great-grandchildren: Caroline Rebecca Kraeuter, Robert Lincoln Kraeuter, Charles Marvin Kraeuter, Adam Richard Bedingfield, Maia Katherine Bedingfield, Jackson Marvin Bedingfield, Tate Alexander Birchmore, Maximus Archimedes Birchmore; nieces Sally Birchmore Wildman and Anne Cramer, and nephews Dwight Cramer and Alex Cramer, along with many great nieces and nephews. The family extends a special word of appreciation to the kind staff of Gentiva Hospice Services at Athens Regional Medical . Services will be held at 11 am , 23, 2015, preceded by family visitation at 10 am in the Wesley Parlor of First United Methodist Church in Athens. The family suggests that those wishing to commemorate Willa Deane consider donating to either Athens Kiwanis Club charitable projects, the Salvation Army, or to the Missions Fund of First United Methodist Church. Obituary: Mr. Samuel Biondolillo of Canton, Georgia passed away 16, 2016. He was born on 3, 1924, in Mt. Morris, NY to the late Samuel and Ida Biondolillo. He graduated from Mt. Morris High School and attended Geneseo State University of NY. He played basketball four years for Mt. Morris High School, Geneseo State University of NY, one year for the submarine base in New London and the American Thermos Co. team in Norwich, CT. Sam joined the U.S. Navy during WWII and served in the submarine service on the USS S-48. While stationed at Groton, CT he met and married Mildred Helen Mulcahy of Norwich, CT with whom he celebrated 70 years of marriage. being discharged from the U.S. Navy, Sam remained in Norwich, CT and was employed at the American Thermos Co. Shortly thereafter, he was hired as General Forman by Dow Chemical Co. in Gales Ferry, CT, at the Allens Point Plant. In 1964 he was promoted to International Marine Manager for Dow Chemical. During his career they lived in Norwich, CT, Midland, MI and Houston, TX. Upon retirement, they relocated to Beverly Hills, FL, and have spent the past eleven years in Canton, GA. He was a loving and devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, dancing, traveling, watching sports, taking cruises and spending time at the ocean with family and friends. Sam was an avid golfer and while in Florida, he was invited by a club professional to compete in Floridas Club Pro/Amateur golf tournament which they won in Ft. Lauderdale. Sam was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and participated in the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Elks Club, Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Samuel was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Nathan. He is survived by sons, Jim Biondolillo (Michele) and David Biondolillo (Joyce), daughter Donna Shepherd (Douglas), sister Marianne, two brothers Andrew and Tom, five grandchildren, Brian, Dawn, John, Andy and Nic, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A funeral service will be on , 21, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at Georgia National . She graduated from Norwich Free Academy, where she lettered in volley ball. Mildred married Samuel Biondolillo, a WWII veteran, and then they started their family. Samuel worked for Dow Chemical as an International Marine Manager. During his career they lived in Norwich, CT, Midland, MI and Huston, Texas. Upon retirement, they relocated to Beverly Hills, Florida, and have spent the past ten years in Canton, GA. For many years, Mildred worked for American Heart Association in Norwich, CT. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, puzzles, dancing, gardening, traveling and making her famous spaghetti and meatballs. She also liked watching sports and spending time at the ocean with family and friends. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Marguerite and Annamae, brother, James and grandson, Nathan. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Samuel Russell Biondolillo, sons, Jim Biondolillo (Michele) and David Bionsolillo (Joyce), daughter, Donna Shepherd (Douglas), grandchildren, Nic, John, Andy, Dawn and Brian, 7 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
