Obituary: Mr. Plumer Mitchell Mitch Barden Jr., age 84, of Toccoa, GA, passed away , 14, 2016 at The Clary . Born 20, 1931 in Gwinnett , GA, he was the son of the late Plumer Mitchell Barden Sr., and Lois Clack Barden. He was a member of Rock Creek Baptist Church and was a United States Army Veteran retiring with 20 years of service. Mr. Barden also retired from Coats and Clark with 19 years of service. He proudly served tours in the Korean and the Vietnam Wars earning numerous medals including the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and Vietnam Service Medal. Family members include his daughters Monica Barden and Michelle Goss, both of Toccoa; son and daughter-in-law, Anthony W. and n Travis of Ringgold, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Virginia Barden of Raleigh, NC; granddaughter, Megan Goss of Toccoa; grandsons, Justin Travis, Daniel Travis, Nicholas Travis, and Bradley Travis; a niece and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Jameson Barden; sister, Mary Louise Prospero; brothers, George Albert Barden and Robert Wayne Barden. services will be held at three oclock , 16, 2016 from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with the Rev. Ralph Goss and Mr. R. D. Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Rock Creek Baptist Church with Full Military Honors provided by the United States Army. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers; Jimmie Ivester, Jerry Calhoun, Dan Hendricks, Larry Koch, Joe Howard, and Brandon Traynor. Mr. R. D. Bulldog Smith will serve as honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 2pm – 4pm and 6pm – 8pm , 15, 2016. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Disabled Veterans. Whitlock Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. |

Obituary: Mr. Braxton H. Barden, age 87, of Hampton, Georgia passed away on 18, 2016. Mr. Barden was born on 11, 1928 in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of the late Bettie Blanch Wood Barden and McNeace Barden. He was also preceded in death by a son, Mark Barden; brothers, Howell and Mack Barden; and sisters, Maxie Faulkner and Woodie Swanson. Mr. Barden enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, reading, riding his tractor, cooking, and the beach. He was well known for his homemade brunswick stew. He was a member of Hampton United Methodist Church. Survivors are his wife of 67 years, Marian Brown Barden of Hampton; children, Kerry Barden of California, Dan Barden of Texas, and John Barden (Doris) of Woodstock; 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; sister and brother in law, Allena Mann (Ed) of Suwannee; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service honoring the life of Mr. Barden will be held on , 30, 2016 beginning 11:00am at Hampton United Methodist Church with Rev. Brent White officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
