Obituary: an wearisome struggle on this earth, Carolyn Annette Alvis, aged 57, fell asleep and woke up in the comforting and loving embrace of her Savior on 4, 2017. Carolyn was born 14, 1960 in Cullman. She was a proud graduate of the St. Vincents School of in Birmingham, AL and worked as a registered nurse at the Cullman Regional Medical until health forced her into early retirement. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran in Hanceville, AL and subscribed to the Cullman Times all of her adult life- always reading it in what she believed to be the only proper order- the obituaries first, of course. She is survived by two sisters Betty Freeman of Decatur and Margaret Brown (Johnny Brown) of Cullman, 3 brothers LJ Alvis (Pete Alvis) of Decatur, Jim Alvis (Betty Alvis) of Cullman, and Tim Alvis (Amy Alvis) of Michie, TN, her sister-in-law Betty Alvis (widow of Charles Alvis) of Decatur, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family who will miss her. She is greeted in heaven by her parents JV and Alla Bea (Burks) Alvis along with her three brothers, Jack, Leon, and Charlie. Obituary: Mrs. Nan Hirschberg Altmayer, 94, passed away on , 2, at a local hospital. The family will receive friends , 4, 2016, from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm at Radney , Mobile. A graveside service will be held , 5, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Springhill Avenue Temple . A mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Sodality Chapel at Springhill . Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Altmayer had briefly been a model in New York. Later, she would be a perennial presence on Mobile's best-dressed list. She was a champion skeet shooter, an art gallery owner, and a noted hostess, opening her house, Palmetto Hall, which she restored with her husband, for yearly tours of Mobile's historic homes. With her husband, she was an avid collector of paintings and antiques. She was recognized as Mobilian of the Year for her devotion to community philanthropies. She was particularly known as a benefactor of the Mobile Museum of Art and Springhill , where her gifts included the administration building known as Nan Altmayer Place, student scholarships, and a faculty chair. She took great pride in the honorary doctorate granted her by the college. Mrs. Altmayer was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Santree Hirschberg and Rosalie Schwartz Hirschberg, a sister, Jean Seidman, and her husband of 57 years, Jay Pollock Altmayer. She is survived by her two children, Jay P.(Marjorie) Altmayer II, and Patricia Storace; grandchildren, Joshua Altmayer, Jennifer A.R. Altmayer, and David H. Altmayer, a nephew, Jeffrey H.(Sandy) Seidman, a niece Lynn(Thomas) Pellegrini, a great niece, Jeanann Seidman, and a great nephew, Jayson Seidman. The family is deeply grateful for the devoted care given Mrs. Altmayer by Meshera Goode, Crystal Edwards, Jennifer Love, Kelly Love, and Jamille James.
