Obituary: Mr. Kenneth C. Atkinson, 86, died on 16, 2016 in Sarasota Florida. Born on 9, 1930 to George and Ethel Moolick Atkinson, Ken was a lifelong resident of Truxton where he married his wife Annette and raised 2 children. Blessed with a colorful personality and quick wit, Ken enjoyed football, basketball and baseball, coaching and mentoring young people and listening to country music. Ken was a Veteran of the Korean War and member of the Kingsley-Turner American Legion Post in Truxton. He retired from the J.M. Murray in 1996. Ken is survived by his daughter, Deborah of Sarasota, Florida; his son, Dale (Rose) of Hampstead, N. Carolina; and sister Lonnell (Robert) ODonnell of Truxton, granddaughters, Maggie, Brandy, Keri, grandson Eric, five great-granddaughters and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ken is predeceased by his wife, Annette Atkinson (2003), brother Harold Atkinson (1983) and sister Lynneal (1942). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Truxton on 2, at II AM in St. Patricks Catholic Church with Rev. Paul Alciati, serving as celebrant. The family will be present to receive friends from 5-7 PM on 1, in the Chapel of Riccardi , 69 N. Main St. Cortland, N.Y. Obituary: Mary (Boyter) Whisenant Atkinson, age 80, passed away peacefully 6, 2016 surrounded by family. Mary Dell was born Mary 24, 1935 in Gastonia, NC to the late Corrine Windham and Jack Boyce Boyter. The youngest of four children, Mary was raised with love and appreciation of family. She held many fond memories of growing up surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins. graduating high school in Dallas, NC Mary met and married Harold T. Whisenant Sr. in 1954. Acting upon her father's advice, the two moved to Florida and settled in Jacksonville. Here she and her family grew, making many acquaintances and building lifelong friendships. She was widowed in 1978. Mary began working for southern Bell as a telephone operator at the age of 18. Her steady rise in position and responsibilities were a testament to her intelligence, dedication and professionalism. No matter her position or task, Mary was a valued member of any team and lead by her own example. She retired management level after 32 years, leaving many friends within the Bell System and Telephone Pioneers of America. Prior to retirement, Mary was wedded to Thomas (Toby) D. Atkinson, Jr. She and Toby moved to Viola, TN to enjoy country life and quickly made many enduring friendships. Their relocation back to Florida was bittersweet but allowed them to be closer to family and make new friends in Ocala and Jacksonville. Even in her later months, Mary continued to have a positive influence on those around her. She was a frequent source of wisdom to those who knew her, often advising prayer and trust in God after deliberation. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Toby; her parents; brothers, Jack, Jr. and Robert Bob Boyter; and sister, Margie Lou Creech. She is survived by her two sons, Harold T. Whisenant, Jr. and W. Timothy Whisenant; grandson, William T. Whisenant; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and stepchildren. A visitation will be held from 5-8pm on , 14, 2016 at Hardage-Giddens of Mandarin. A graveside service will be at 11am on , 15, 2016 at Evergreen (505 Rodriguez St. St. ine, FL 32084).
