Obituary: James H. Anstis, 75, of West Palm Beach died 6, 2017 after a hard fought two year battle with Mesothelioma. He was born in Hobe Sound, son of Edward and Mary (Chambliss) Anstis. He attended Central Elementary and Junior High, graduating from Palm Beach High School in 1958, then served in the United States Navy for four years. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Architecture in 1967 from the University of Florida. In 1965 he married the former Betty Jean Cloud at the First Methodist Church in West Palm Beach. Mr. Anstis was a Registered Architect, State of Florida from 1969 until his passing. He was also National Council of Architectural Registration Boards Certified. He was self-employed providing design services to both individuals and government agencies until his retirement in 2008. Additionally, he provided Expert Witness, Mediation & Arbitration services in Construction Defects and Architectural Forensics. Accomplished in his craft, Jim was honored locally and nationally for his work in Architecture and Professional Standards, awarded the American Institute of Architects highest honor with his admission to the of Fellows in 1988 and culminating with the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award for the AIA/Florida in 2015. He also served as National Secretary of the American Institute of Architects. As a native Floridian, Jim was heavily involved in his community for decades; serving on local, state and national advisory boards, committees, and task forces. He was President, Board Member and Founding Member of many influential and service directed non-profits throughout Palm Beach , including The Education Foundation, Palm Beach , Safe of Palm Beach , Scholastic Achievement Foundation and Rotary Club of West Palm Beach. Jim had an enormous passion for the great outdoors. From dog sledding in Minnesota, to camping above the Arctic Circle, to canoeing the Suwanee River, all the while photographing his adventures. He was an exceptional woodworker and a voracious reader with a passion for knowledge. He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty; daughter Anastasia Stacey (Jeffrey) Greer of Wellington; and his son Derek of West Palm Beach. He also leaves behind his sister Ann (Les) Walper of Lancaster, TN and his brother William (Carol) Anstis of Scottsboro, AL, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10a.m. on 4, 2017 at Quattlebaum located at 5411 Okeechobee Blvd. West Palm Beach, Florida 33417 with The Rev. Canon Howarth L. Lewis, Jr. presiding.
