Obituary: Nancy Elizabeth Allen, 63, of Dunedin, Florida passed on , May 31, 2014. The daughter of Priscilla Dyer Allen and Hubble Allen, she was born in Plainfield, Massachusetts. Nancy lived in Plainfield until 1960, when she moved with her family to Dunedin, Florida, which she loved as she was partially of Scots descent. She is survived by her brother, Charles F. (Chuck) Allen and sister, Marcia G. Allen, also of Dunedin. Nancy graduated with the Dunedin High School Class of 1968 and then attended ST. Petersburg Jr . She studied Occupational Therapy at Florida International University in Miami. She received her 2 year degree as a Certified Occupational Therapist at West Palm Beach Jr. and began working as a therapist in 1980. She worked in that profession until 2014 when stomach cancer forced her to retire. Nancy was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin, Florida, and became an Elder in 1980. Shortly thereafter, she was given the job of organizing Communion, which she did in an exemplary manner until her death. Nancy had a keen interest in genealogy and history. She began genealogy research in her early teens as she was descended from several of the Mayflower settlers. She belonged to the New England Historical and Genealogical Society for many years and was very active in the Plainfield Historical Society. She had ancestors who lived in Plainfield, MA from its incorporation 1785 and throughly knew the town's early history. In 1983, she was a founding member of the Suncoast Genealogical Society and held the office of President several times. In 2009 she received awards from both the State of Florida Genealogical Society and the national Genealogical Society. She was an Associate Member of the a Jane Evans Wilson Chapter 2640 United Daughters of the Confederacy, which she joined as she was also depended from one of the original settlers of Jamestown, Virginia. Nancy enjoyed taking photographs, and in 2002 and 2005 she was the Official Photographer for the Veteran World Fencing Championships, held in Tampa. Nancy was a cheerful, helpful person with a big heart and is described by many as " the kind of person you only meet two or three times in your life". A Memorial Service will be conducted by her dear friend, Air Force Chaplan Linda Pugley LTC, at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Dunedin, 2255 Scotland Street on 8th at 4:00 PM. All who knew her and wish to commemorate her life are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to First Presbyterian Church Dunedin, the a Jane Evans Wilson Chapter 2640, United Daughters of the Confederacy or the Suncoast Genealogical Society. |
