Obituary: Mrs. Mahboobeh Akhavan was born in the city of Hamadan, Iran on May 10, 1929 to Mr. Yahya and Mrs. Tuba Misaghian. Hamadan, a historical city in the northeast region of Iran, has been known for its mountainous terrain and cold climate. Mahboobeh was born and raised in a Bahai family. She was the third child in her family, and had two sisters and one brother. Everyone that knew her believed her to be a kind, loving, and caring soul. she finished her education in Hamadan, the entire family moved to Tehran, the capital of Iran. In 1946, she met Mr. Rezvan Akhavan and they were married in the same year. had four children: Sohrab, Soheil, Soroor, and Nahid. She was a dedicated mother and loving grandmother. In 1979, Mr. and Mrs. Akhavan came to Tallahassee for what they thought to be a short visit; However, after the 1979 Iranian revolution and deteriorating situation for religious minorities, particularly Bahais, they were unable to return to Iran. Hence, they decided to make Tallahassee their permanent residence. It was a big challenge for Mr. and Mrs. Akhavan to learn a new language and adjust to a new culture, but they did so quickly and with a grace. In their newly adopted country, they enjoyed freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and freedom of education. Mahboobeh was completely dedicated to her family and children. She was a soft spoken person with a beautiful smile. Her smile was always the first thing that was noticed by anyone who met her. Towards the end of her life, when she did not feel well and did not have the energy or strength to speak, she continued to share her smile with the people who came to help her, expressing her appreciation and gratitude. Mahboobeh is survived by her four children, nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, two daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law, and one sister who resides in California. |
