Obituary: Captain David Christopher Chris Akers was born on 24, 1981 and spent most of his life in Destin, Florida. He was a devoted husband and father, a loving son, a friend to all, and a man of God. Chris is survived by his beloved wife, Christina; his son, Mason; his fur-baby Teak; his proud parents, Captain Bob & Joann Welniak; sister, Sarah Lithgow (John); brother, Cameron Welniak; maternal grandmother, Lois Conwell; paternal grandmother, Kathy Garcia; Billy and Emily Wakefield; aunts, Jody Shaw and family, Karen Castro (Kent); uncles, Bill Wakefield and family, David Welniak, Mike Welniak (Angie) and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and the brothers of the Destin Fishing Fleet. Captain Chriss love of the water led him to a career as a Boat Captain. He worked hard to support his family as a Charter Boat Captain and was part of the Brotherhood of Destin Fisherman. His passion for the water developed growing up on his Paw Paws boat and his deep knowledge and appreciation of the sea, he learned from his father. When he wasn out on open water, he enjoyed spending all his land time with his family, taking family trips, playing with his son Mason and fur-baby Teak. His favorite hobbies included golfing, listening to Stevie Nicks and country music, and watching Alabama football. Chriss love of sports, include: baseball, golfing, football, and bowling. He was an amazing husband, father, son and grandson. His sparkling blue eyes, contagious smile and gentle, quiet ways will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A Celebration of Life will be held at Immanuel Anglican Church in Destin, FL on , 8, 2016 at 11:00am. Please wear your finest fishing attire including board shorts and flops. Chris would have wanted it that way. There will be a reception following the service. The date for the casting of Chriss ashes at sea has not yet been set.
