Obituary: Doris Muriel Asmus, age 98, passed away at her home on 23, 2017. She was born in Nebraska and grew up on the family farm with her two sisters and brother. She graduated from Grand Island Business . She met and married her husband, Lawrence, during this time, and they were married for 31 years, before Lawrence passed away in 1971. Doris and Lawrence worked for almost two years in Washington DC. She was working at the Navy Dept. there when WWII broke out, Lawrence enlisted in the Army, and was deployed oversea. Doris came to Colorado with their twin baby girls. When Lawrence returned after the war ended, they settled in Denver, had another baby girl, and owned and operated a radio sales and repair store. As Doris and Lawrence raised their three daughters, Doris was a leader in Girls Scout for some years, in Parent Teacher Association, as president one year. She helped in the family business, and worked in the public schools in the cafeteria after her husband passed away. She loved family and spending time in the mountains with family at the cabin, and she loved being of service to others. She loved God and knew Jesus as her Savior. She is preceded in death by her parents, Effie M. and H. Russell Corner; husband, Lawrence F. Asmus; sisters, Mildred Cline and Rilla Graham; brother, George Corner. Doris is survived by her daughters, Joyce (Jim ) Rhoades of Loveland, CO, Jean (Jerry) Lammers of Boulder, CO and Donna (Rod) Krey of Grand Lake, CO; grandchildren, Angie (Dan) Hintz of Littleton, CO, Lindsay (Chad) Gillham of Littleton, CO, Brett (Ingar) Lammers of Loveland, CO, Todd (Allison) Lammers of Lafayette, CO, Christine (Brian) McKee of Westminster, CO and John (Johanna) Rhoades of Wellington, CO; Doris had fourteen great-grandchildren. A Visitation was held from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, , 2, 2017 at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6601 S Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121. A Committal Service followed at 3:00 pm in the cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 afternoon, 5, 2017 at Wind Crest Retirement Community, 3235 Mill Vista Rd, Highlands Ranch, CO 80129 where she lived in an apartment for 10 years. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Doctors without Borders, or The Denver Rescue Mission. |
