Obituary: Kathie was born in St. Louis Missouri, the 2nd of six brothers and sisters, 9, 1943. She married Thomas James Fortner in 1961; and gave birth to her first son, Randall Cory, on May 2, 1962, followed by Richard Bradley on 4, 1964. She was widowed in 1965; and married Charles Arwood in 1967, and had a daughter, Robin Marie, on 19, 1970. She enjoyed a beautiful marriage of 25 years with Charles until she was widowed again in 1992. The family moved to Colorado in 1976. Kathies life was full of many achievements, far more than can be listed here. She never dabbled in anything in which she had an interest. She became a master and teacher to share her knowledge with others. Kathie had a special place in her heart for children. She was a loving and proud grandma to Joey, Thomas, Kora, Andrea, May, Molly, Marie and Max. She enjoyed her position, reading to groups of children at the library, and as always dedicated herself to the children. She also took pride in special art projects at local schools, many of which are still displayed today. She is not only known for her extensive work with childrens reading projects, but also with Archeologist Dr. Bill Buckles on the El Pueblo, Boggsville, Sante Fe Trail and other local archeology projects, She is also an artist in many medias. She shared skills of pottery using local materials and Native American techniques with many, helping to develop an understanding and appreciation for the history of this area and the craft. Kathie enjoyed spending her time, even in recent months, developing childrens lesson plans for the Archeological exhibits at the Southeastern Colorado Heritage . Kathie was passionate and caring to all animals, all of whom she shared a special bond. Her Animal rescue efforts placed hundreds of animals to loving homes over the last 20 years even when it meant great personal sacrifices. Her memory will live on through her art, pottery, and her unselfish contributions to the causes in which she cared so deeply. Kathie will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
